When one is elected to Congress, you would presume that the elected representative would represent, you know, the people who voted them in. That doesn't appear to be the case with the perfectly detestable Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who claims to represent Somalia.
Today she may well get her comeuppance. She faces a primary challenge from the same person who challenged her in 2022 - Don Samuels. Omar, if Samuels succeeds, will be the third Squad member to go down in flames this year, following the equally odious Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and Cori Bush (D-MO).
After a tough summer at the ballot box for members of the so-called "Squad," the group of progressive and diverse House Democrats is facing its final intraparty challenge on Tuesday as four states in the Midwest and New England hold primary elections.
Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota faces voters one week after her fellow Squad member, Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri, lost her bid for re-nomination and nearly two months after another Squad member, Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York, fell to his primary challenger.
But Omar, who made history as the first Somali American in Congress and the first woman of color to represent Minnesota on Capitol Hill, is the favorite as she faces three primary challengers in the Democrat primary. Omar is seeking a fourth two-year term representing the Minneapolis-anchored 5th Congressional District.
Omar may, sadly, fare better than Bowman and Bush, as she faces three primary challengers; but Minnesota, we should note, has an open primary system - meaning Minnesota Republicans can cross over and vote for one of Omar's opponents, essentially re-creating the late, great Rush Limbaugh's Operation Chaos on a more local level.
Let's get it done, Minnesota!

Given Ilhan Omar's predilection for claiming to represent Somalia, one wonders why she has lasted this long, but then, her district includes Minneapolis's large Somali community. As this is the case, some may claim that her statement about "representing Somalia" is mere hyperbole.
Color me skeptical.
Even so, it's difficult to see why the voters of Minnesota's 5th Congressional District keep sending this woman back to Congress. For a clue, we might look at Rep. Omar's list of accomplishments while in the House of Representatives:
...
Uff da! That's the list. There's nothing to put on it. Her career seems to be built on screeching far-left tripe and anti-Israel (one might argue antisemitic) bile while managing to contribute very little to, well, anything. She is one of the most odious and unpleasant people to ever sit in the House of Representatives, but sadly, the most recent polls make it look like she may well survive this latest challenge.
Still - it ain't over yet. The fat lady has not yet sung, although she is warming up in the wings. So, as a guy who grew up a small-town kid from Iowa, I hereby make the voters of Minnesota's Fifth Congressional District this pledge: Toss this woman out, and I will refrain from making jokes about Minnesota for... three weeks. I'll make it six weeks if she is slam-dunked by a margin of ten points or more. Get it done, Minnesotans. And District 5 Republicans - bite your tongue and vote for Don Samuels because sometimes the difference between good and bad is not so stark as the difference between bad and worse.
This seems appropriate.
