Trump Advisor Navarro Laughs Off Supposed 'Feud' With Elon Musk—Mainstream Media Hardest Hit

Almost since the day Elon Musk started becoming a regular in Trumpworld, the media has been salivating over the prospect of a nasty fallout between the two billionaires—and they’ve been doing everything in their power to make that happen. They’ve run blaring headlines about a supposed rift between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Musk, stories about the SpaceX and Tesla founder being thrown out of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), rumors about how the “bromance is growing cracks,” ad nauseum.

The two moguls have repeatedly swatted aside such rumors, however, and on Saturday night, Elon attended UFC 314 in Miami with the president and his extended entourage. They seem pretty chummy for people who can’t stand each other.

The media’s latest obsession is about a supposed spat between Musk and Senior Counselor for Trade Peter Navarro. In this case, they did have some reason to speculate, to be fair, because Elon did call Navarro a “moron” on April 8 over his tariff views, which naturally raised some eyebrows.

At the time, the White House quickly indicated that they were not particularly concerned over the issue, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issuing a dismissive shrug:

"These are obviously two individuals who have very different views on trade and on tariffs," Leavitt said during her White House press briefing. "Boys will be boys and we will let their public sparring continue."

Now Navarro himself is laughing the whole thing off, saying he’s been “called worse” than "moron" by those who don’t see things his way:

"Elon and I are great," Navarro told NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday. "It's not an issue."
Host Kristen Welker shot back, "even though he called you a moron and dumber than a sack of bricks?"
"I've been called worse," Navarro responded with smiles and a laugh. "Everything's fine with Elon.
"And, look, Elon's doing a very good job with his team with waste, fraud, and abuse. That's a tremendous contribution to America, and no man doing that kind of thing should be subject to having his cars firebombed by crazies.
"That is beyond the pale.
"No one should come into the government and have to go to jail like I did."

The two Trump advisors don’t see tariffs through identical lenses:

Musk has sought to advocate for "zero-tariff" trade, but Navarro shares Trump's belief that reciprocal tariffs – if not punitive tariffs on bad actors like China – are being used to get the world to balance trade toward zero tariffs: Ostensibly true free and fair trade worldwide.
"Zero tariffs get the American people virtually nowhere," Navarro said.

There you have it, the Great Feud That Will Bring Down the Trump Administration and make Donald and Elon sworn blood enemies.

The reality is, Musk is doing DOGE, and Navarro is advising Trump on trade and tariffs—they’ve been put in charge of different things. Trump has always said he has no problem with advisers holding diverging viewpoints, so for now at least, this would seem to be, as Shakespeare might say, much ado about nothing.

Trump has repeatedly praised Musk, and on Sunday the White House official email prominently noted Navarro's appearances on the weekly cable news shows, so neither man appears to be on the outs.
