Here we are on Palm Sunday in the year of Our Lord 2025, and I should be preparing for the holiest week in the Christian calendar, but instead I come across a bunch of stories about my wayward governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, and I shake my head and mutter out loud.

What the #$%^&(*%&^&.

I don't want to use inappropriate language in my thoughts and musings at the beginning of Holy Week here at RedState; I'm sure you understand.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is one of those Democrats whose name is being bandied about for the 2028 presidential race. 

But maybe not after the picture that the NY Times just published of her at the White House this week. 

She was in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday to give a policy speech, and to meet President Donald Trump in the Oval Office to talk about Michigan. During the speech, she mentioned how she supports some aspects of what he has been saying about tariffs.

I get the whole confusion about Trump engaging the world and installing tariffs across the board instead of within the framework of the United States-Mexico-Canada agreement, which he negotiated during his first term. Tariffs, which are nothing more than taxes on goods brought into this country from other countries, are generally something the Democrats have been begging for since the beginning of time. That Donald Trump is an advocate for this has Democrats wholeheartedly confused, and they're not sure how to embrace something that they would normally love but which modern-day Hitler has endorsed.

The confusion is real.

Trump has broken the mold and the Democrats' greatest supporters with it.

So I'm not surprised that Governor Whitmer would go to Washington, D.C., to try to figure out how she could get some money out of the federal government, much like she did during COVID when she shut the state down and instituted some of the dumbest policies in the history of the whole wide world.

Yet some on Whitmer's side of the aisle are so disgusted with her, they are willing to throw her over the political railing and let her career die. I read about one such instance right HERE:

First, I want to thank Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer for getting all this out of the way early before a 2028 presidential election that may or may not happen.

By doing us the courtesy of not wasting our time any longer pretending she’s anything but a complete phony we can move on to rooting for and supporting candidates who really do share our ideals, and understand the extreme danger we are in right now in America.

Because either you understand that, or you don’t. This is no time for playing cute, and screwing around in the squishy middle.

Until her embarrassing public surrender Wednesday, I actually had Whitmer pegged for possible stardom.

How sad that somebody or multiple people had been disappointed by Gretchen. If anybody across the United States had delusions of grandeur about her leadership, they have not talked to anybody sensible in the Great Lake State. 

She was awful during the COVID nonsense, and I covered what was uncovered by a reporter named Charlie LeDuff and others right below.

She seeks to destroy what she oversees, and she is damn good at it.

So yesterday, while I was scrolling X (formerly Twitter), I came across a post by somebody who I have followed for several years and who has done some excellent reporting, not only on what is going on in the state of Michigan but across the nation. Charlie LeDuff is his name, and during the governor's COVID escapades, he dove right into that whole story and was a true pain in the butt for an administration that didn't want to discuss the science and facts that they claimed they were following.

t was 5 years ago today that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued the first of her disastrous Covid-19 pandemic orders. 
"Science and data," she boasted. 
There was no science or data. Remember, I had to sue her to find out there was no accurate death count in the long-term care facilities. 
No other reporter joined me. 
Not one. 
Some, in fact, covered for her. 
The true death count in MI is may be as high as 14,000...close to that of NY. 
The stupidity of co-mingling the sick and the old. 
Even NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo stopped doing it after six weeks. 
Not Whitmer. 
I promised the families I would do my best to get them justice. 
Today, I reaffirm that commitment. 
Things are in motion.

So for those folks who are embarrassed that she held up some folders in front of her face at the White House, which is a typical motion for somebody who occasionally shows embarrassment for being inadequate and bad at their job, sorry they're shocked. That some thought she was competent because she had been elected and reelected tells me they do not understand how the state of Michigan works in elections.

Michigan is a blue state, and it is only a matter of time until someone who is legally dead runs as a Democrat and wins. I know that makes Republicans who live here mad when I say that, but until the GOP wins multiple statewide elections every two years, that statement will stand. 

Democrats, on occasion, will, behind the scenes, throw one of their own under the bus like they are with Whitmer right now, because she no longer has any viability on the state or the national stage. 

Those saying that she could run for president and win have no idea of the absolute mess the state of Michigan is in, and people promoting her before this incident at the White House last week were peeing into the wind. All that would have gotten them was some airtime on MSNBC and possibly an offer of some dry clothes.

Not good luck for anyone at all.

However, Gretch does make me laugh, so I do thank her for that.
