Hirsi would go on to tell Teen Vogue that she was held for all of eight hours after being arrested, accusing the police of inhumane treatment. As far as I'm concerned, it wasn't nearly long enough.

Oral argument is set for two cases before the Supreme Court on Monday:

  1. City of Grants Pass v. Johnson — Considering whether the enforcement of generally applicable laws regulating camping on public property constitutes "cruel and unusual punishment" prohibited by the Eighth Amendment?
  2. Smith v. Spizzirri — To determine whether Section 3 of the FAA requires district courts to stay a lawsuit pending arbitration, or whether district courts have discretion to dismiss when all claims are subject to arbitration.

MORNING MUSING

While many celebrate Earth Day on April 22nd, for me, it always brings back memories of college days — 4/22/88, to be exact. A neighboring fraternity had a pretty significant fire (believe it may have been caused by an errant bottle rocket). No one was injured, thankfully. My sorority's large composite picture had been housed at the fraternity. (Stealing composites was a thing back then.) My mom was in town and went with me over to survey the wreckage. The composite was lying on the lawn, slightly smoke-damaged but otherwise unscathed. Mom and I hefted it up and marched it back across a busy thoroughfare and through Greek Town back to its rightful place in the sorority house. Simpler times, man. Simpler times.
