White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed any notion that there is a rift between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and DOGE chief Elon Musk, hammering the media for continually trying to drive that wedge.
Democrats have consistently tried to create havoc between Donald Trump and Musk by suggesting Musk is the man running the show at the White House. When that didn't work, they pivoted to an attempt to create havoc in Rubio and Musk's relationship.
It is an attempt that Leavitt defines as "pitiful."
"Everybody is on board with President Trump's mission and DOGE's mission to identify this waste and fraud, to be good stewards of the American taxpayers' money, and both Elon and Marco are doing an incredible job in their respective roles, and that's true of everybody in President Trump's cabinet," Leavitt told "Fox & Friends" over the weekend.
"He [Trump] has really put together an extraordinary team, and I think it's pitiful that the mainstream media is working overtime to try to divide President Trump from Elon and from other members of his cabinet, but their attempts are failing," she added. "Everybody is working as one team towards one goal, and it's to make America great again."
Leavitt is responding to a recent report by the New York Times, which asserted there was some animosity between Musk and Rubio at a recent cabinet meeting.
The crux of their alleged clash involved claims that Musk excoriated Rubio for not slashing enough staff at the State Department. At the same time, the former Florida Senator noted that 1,500 buyouts should be counted as layoffs.
If you ever want a lesson in Media Bias 101, have a go at reading the Times report. They castigate Musk immediately by snidely referring to him as "the richest man in the world" rather than the successful head of multiple companies, including X, of whom he slashed the workforce and maintained a successful social media model.
They also throw in adjectives meant to sway the reader. Rubio was "incensed." Musk spoke to him "scornfully." It's less a news report than a flowery attempt at storytime.

In the end, though, the Times admits, "Cabinet officials almost uniformly like the concept of what Mr. Musk set out to do — reducing waste, fraud, and abuse in government."
So they love what he's doing but want to debate a bit about the approach. As Leavitt explains, it was a "productive" meeting with "open dialogue," something one might expect from adults in a room trying to implement the President's agenda.
It's not the first time Leavitt has had to address the so-called palace intrigue behind the dynamic of President Trump's cabinet and Mr. Musk. She mocked such efforts as the legacy media simply being unable to understand the administration is setting about the work of making America great again and having a good time doing it.
It's that "joy" they spoke so much about during the campaign.
"I think that's something the press are having a hard time with. We are genuinely having so much fun, and this is why you're seeing them obsess over Elon Musk and President Trump," she said during a recent podcast.
Trump himself had to shut down a reporter for being a "troublemaker" by stirring up the Rubio-Musk narrative.

When the reporter asked about the New York Times story, Trump quickly shut him down.
“No clash. I was there — you’re just a troublemaker,” the President fired back. “And you’re not supposed to be asking that question because we’re talking about the World Cup.”
It's like swatting away children at this point.
