Women in the United Kingdom keep winning after a UK soccer association reversed its transgender policy that had allowed trans-identifying males to compete on women’s football teams.

The decision from the Football Association has banned trans-identifying males from competing against women on soccer teams in England, NBC News reported.

The group had previously allowed trans-identifying males who had reduced testosterone levels to play on the women’s teams.

“We understand that this will be difficult for people who simply want to play the game they love in the gender by which they identify, and we are contacting the registered transgender women currently playing to explain the changes and how they can continue to stay involved in the game,” the FA said in a statement about the policy change that will take place June 1.

It followed a reversal by the Scottish Football Association, which also now bans biological males from playing on the field against women.

The UK Supreme Court recently defined a woman as a person born biologically female, preventing trans-identifying males from claiming discrimination when they were prevented from entering women’s spaces, groups, and sports in the UK Equality Act of 2010.

“Everyone knows what sex is and you can’t change it,” Susan Smith, co-director of For Women Scotland, which brought the case, said about the decision. “It’s common sense, basic common sense, and the fact that we have been down a rabbit hole where people have tried to deny science and to deny reality, and hopefully this will now see us back to reality.”

In the UK, women have been hurt by the inclusion of trans-identifying males in sports competitions like here in the United States.  A UK pool championship for women recently ended up with two biological men competing for the female title, after the organization allowed transgender competitors to defeat the female competitors, Fox News noted.

The organization has since changed its policy to ban trans-identifying males.

“With effect from 23rd April 2025 trans women will not be eligible to participate in the women’s series nor will trans women be eligible to be selected for international events in the female category,” the statement read.

The statement pointed to a report it had done to determine if “eightball pool” was “a gender affected sport as defined by the Equality Act 2010.”

"The clear conclusion of the biological and cue sports expert who jointly authored the report was that eightball pool was a gender affected sport and that in cue sport, female players have unique disadvantages compared to male players and that transgender women retain male advantages," the statement read. It also pointed to the UK Supreme Court decision.
