A man arrested in connection with stabbing Las Vegas Police Department (LVMPD) K9 "Enzo" is apparently wanted by Missouri authorities for a homicide committed earlier this year.

Enzo, a nearly three-year-old Belgian Malinois, was airlifted to a veterinary trauma hospital and underwent surgery after sustaining stabbing injuries on Friday when LVMPD responded to a call regarding a suicidal male at the 1200 block of Las Vegas Boulevard around 1:08 p.m.

The suspect, Thurman Lowe, 64, who sustained self-inflicted stab wounds, created a barricade situation, lighting an apartment on fire and charging at police officers with a knife. Lowe was apprehended using less-than-lethal tactics, including deploying a K9 unit. That's when Lowe began stabbing K9 Enzo multiple times.

Lowe has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center in absentia due to his current medical condition. He was transported to the UMC Trauma Unit for medical treatment and was listed as in stable but critical condition on Friday.

Lowe is facing multiple felony charges in Nevada, including first-degree arson, two counts of assault on a protected person with a deadly weapon, resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon (not firearm), and attempting to kill a police animal. Lowe is also being held on an out-of-state fugitive warrant.

In January, a warrant was issued for Lowe's arrest after St Louis County, Missouri, police alleged that he shot and killed 46-year-old Freddie Tribbitt before setting fire to the victim's home in an attempt to destroy evidence. The murder occurred on Jan. 9 in the 10500 block of Baron Drive in St. Louis. Officers responded to a call for a house fire around 8:50 p.m. before discovering Tribbitt's body inside the home.

A probable cause statement revealed that Lowe, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, was seen on camera pacing with a firearm, making threats, and ultimately shooting Tribbitt before setting a fire in Tribbitt's home. Lowe was identified by a witness and faces charges including first-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, second-degree arson, and tampering with physical evidence.

Lowe is a registered sex offender after being convicted in 1983 of rape, first-degree burglary, and first-degree robbery. Lowe was released on parole in November 2021 after serving a 30-year sentence. His parole was slated to continue until May 12, 2032.

On Sunday, LVMPD provided another update on Enzo, who has been with the police department for one year.

On social media, LVMPD wrote,

Sunday Update: K9 Enzo continues to recover and is happy to see his handler! Other than some minor maintenance on stitches and wound care, Enzo is in good spirits and getting lots of attention.

In a previous update provided on Saturday, LVMPD said that Enzo was "feeling better" and wrote, “Thanks again to all the skilled veterinarians who have been taking care of Enzo."

Lowe did not appear in front of a judge on Saturday due to his medical state. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.
