Newsom Continues to Flail, Sends Out Cringe Email Slamming People Who 'Laugh About Gay Firefighters'

The political career of Gavin Newsom may have gone up in smoke due to his terrible leadership before and during the ongoing wildfires that are ravaging the Los Angeles area. He casts blame on anyone he can think of except himself, even though he is the chief executive of the state. He pretends to be on the phone with President Biden when a broken-hearted resident demands answers. When asked why hydrants in the Pacific Palisades failed to pump water at the height of that terrible fire, he pathetically says, "The local folks are gonna figure that out." Some leadership.

As my colleague Bonchie reported earlier Saturday, the impeccably coiffed governor found the time to appear on a left-wing Obama bros podcast to request that folks donate to help firefighters—using the notorious Democratic Party fundraising apparatus ActBlue, which is constantly under investigation for accepting illegal funds.

The impeccably coiffed governor apparently didn’t get the memo that this was a bad look, because on Saturday afternoon, he sent out a cringe-worthy, whiny email doubling down on his request that you fork over more cash, this time to the California Fire Foundation—again, using ActBlue.

Now I’m sure it’s a worthy foundation, but we’re already taxed to the max in this state; meanwhile, many of us wouldn’t give a dime to anything associated with ActBlue.

Interestingly, it says at the bottom of the email message, “PAID FOR BY NEWSOM FOR CALIFORNIA – GOVERNOR – 2022.” That’s a Newsom reelection PAC that raked in over $23 million. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren’t we in 2025 now, and didn’t he already win that race in 2022? Nothing to see here, folks, move along; it’s all perfectly normal. (I’m not saying he's breaking any laws; I'm just saying it seems weird.)

But there was more to the email than just a request for donations. He also described the efforts to combat the fires:

We are putting all available resources behind fighting these wildfires, including leveraging local and federal assets. Hurricane-force winds have made this into one of the largest firefighting challenges in modern American history. President Biden immediately signed a major disaster declaration and has offered to help in any way he can.

Fair enough; nothing wrong with that. Then:

Last week, when we saw the wind forecast and the increased fire risk, we pre-positioned assets – fire engines, airports, helicopters, bulldozers, water tenders and more – and as you read this, there are more than 10,000 firefighting personnel on the ground working to combat these fires.

Did you pre-position the mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass? She must also have seen “the wind forecast and the increased fire risk” guidance. No, she was in Ghana for a photo-op. Did you check whether the Palisades reservoir was operational or if the hydrants would work? Evidently not.

Newsom earlier Saturday claimed on social media: “I’m not interested in politicizing a natural disaster.” In this email, however, he proceeded to do exactly that:

Now, if you'll allow me, let me add a few words about Donald Trump, as his allies lie about water policy and laugh about gay firefighters – while people are literally fleeing as homes, churches and schools burn down. It sickens me to my core.

You have probably heard the saying, "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes" – well, that is especially true right now. We will combat these politically motivated lies. But our focus today isn’t on meme wars, it’s on firefighting. And showing up for Californians who have lost everything.

What exactly did Trump lie about? Notice there are no specifics. Are you saying there were no problems with the water supply, Governor? Tell that to the firefighters in the Palisades, who sometimes had to resort to desperate measures to attack the flames.

Meanwhile, no decent person was “laughing about the gay firefighters.” Instead, many pundits were asking legitimate questions about the LAFD’s hyper-focus on DEI and LGBTQ issues instead of firefighting. They threw millions of dollars at such efforts, even as the department was hit with huge budget cutbacks that the chief said negatively affected their ability to fight fires. But that’s Newsom, always trying to divide while claiming he’s doing the opposite.

It’s fair to criticize officials for their preparation because they prioritized other concerns over the safety of their constituents and failed the residents of Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and other communities.

Not surprisingly, Newsom strikes exactly the wrong tone in this lame email.
