As we reported, many were at the Vatican on Saturday for the funeral of Pope Francis from all over the world.

Former Obama Secretary of State John Kerry was there, getting triggered by an MSNBC reporter's question about Crimea, on the Obama administration's failure to deal with Ukraine.

President Donald Trump was also at the Vatican. Some were perturbed that he was wearing a blue suit. It was still dark, so I'm not sure what difference it made. It seemed such a dumb thing about which to be offended.

But there was some more drama on the sidelines that was getting people's attention, and that was the meeting Trump had with Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian president. Some suggested it looked like French President Macron wanted in on the meeting. Whether that was true or not, Trump must have wanted a private discussion because that's what happened.

That resulted in a powerful photo in the historic setting.

I couldn't help but think it looked like Zelensky was making his confession to Trump. But he also looks like he's not trying to get up in Trump's face, like he was when they last met in the White House. He looks more like he's trying to talk to the president.

In contrast to that last time when things went sideways, this meeting seemed to go well.

The meeting was "very productive," according to White House communications director Steven Cheung.

Zelensky also called it a good meeting.

“Good meeting. We discussed a lot one on one. Hoping for results on everything we covered. Protecting lives of our people. Full and unconditional ceasefire. Reliable and lasting peace that will prevent another war from breaking out,” the Ukrainian president said. “Very symbolic meeting that has potential to become historic, if we achieve joint results.”

Trump then chastised Russia on Truth Social for their latest actions, “There was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days." He continued:

“It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through ‘Banking’ or ‘Secondary Sanctions'? Too many people are dying!!!”

Sounds like he's losing patience with Vladimir Putin not signing off on a deal and playing these games. He's been showing that more over the past two months. He wants a deal, and he wants Putin to move on it now.

So, hopefully, they will have a different result from this meeting.
