Will Kamala Harris Try Again in 2028?

Every year it seems that the Christmas decorations in the stores go up a little earlier; one wouldn't be surprised these days to find jingle bells framing doorways in the local shops only days after the patriotic Independence Day bunting has come down. Presidential elections are getting to be the same way; the dust has barely settled from the 2024 elections, the last few close races are still being decided, and people are already speculating about 2028.

One of those people is Kamala Harris, who apparently hasn't yet figured out why she lost in 2024, which isn't stopping her from making noises about trying again.

The vice president is expected to deliberate more over her political prospects throughout the next few weeks, five people in Harris’ inner circle told Politico. As she mulls her choices, her staff has been working to craft a message for the vice president that both takes aim at President-elect Donald Trump and solidifies her role in the Democratic party, the outlet reported.
“There will be a desire to hear her voice, and there won’t be a vacuum for long,” a person close to Harris told the outlet.

My first response to the possible Democrat choice of the Queen of Word Salads as their 2028 candidate? Oh, please please please please please do this. Here's why.

First, Kamala Harris isn't going to grow any smarter or more articulate over the next four years. As a certain fictional San Francisco police inspector once cautioned us, "A man's got to know his limitations," and that certainly applies to women as well, especially when they are running for president. Kamala Harris' flaws as both elected official and candidate are manifest, but not least among them is that she seems to combine self-righteousness with a certain lazy ignorance. These are character flaws that would require a great deal of thought, introspection, and maybe a good dose of omphaloskepsis to overcome; I don't see Kamala Harris as capable of any of these things.

Second, Kamala Harris's major flaw, as exposed very plainly to the electorate in the 2020 Democrat primaries as well as in the 2024 election, is that she just isn't very bright. That's impossible to overcome; no amount of self-reflection can fix that, and her opponent will suffer no such handicap. Which brings us to...

Third and finally, the opposition. Whomever the Democrats choose to run for the big chair in 2028 will be facing, unless some catastrophe intervenes, one of two people: Vice President-elect JD Vance or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. (Granted, this is a prediction, and predictions are notoriously difficult to make, especially about the future.) Both of those candidates are smarter, more charismatic, better informed, and more articulate than Kamala Harris. Of course, in the case of Harris, that's setting the bar so low that someone in a diving bell at the bottom of the Mariana Trench would have to look down to see it.

It staggers belief to think that Kamala Harris has any chance at securing the Democrat nomination for 2028.

But Democrat self-awareness, in some quarters, doesn't seem to have improved any.

Among the Democratic party, there is acknowledgment that the vice president has the “X factor” in the next party primary, Politico reported. Her short run for president, Harris’ allies feel, helped her standing within the Democratic party, the outlet reported.

“She proved a lot of skeptics wrong as a political athlete. And her standing with the public is as good as any Democrats with the name I.D. that she has,” a Harris ally told Politico.

Yeah. You go with that, Harris allies. I mean, it worked out so well this time, and another Republican presidential landslide in 2028 is a gift horse we will look anywhere but in the mouth.
