Trump Michigan Rally Tuesday Will Highlight Achievements Over First 100 Days—and What's to Come

Townhall Media

Well, tomorrow is the big day.

El Presidente 47, Donald John Trump, is returning to Michigan and Macomb County, home of the famous Reagan Democrats, to speak to his supporters in the county that almost delivered all of the 80,000 votes he won the state by in 2024. Trump won Macomb County by almost 70,000 votes, which gave him a comfortable lead to take the whole state by a larger margin than he did in 2016.

He posted this earlier today on his platform Truth Social, pumping up his visit.

Thank you to my wonderful friends in Michigan’s Republican Delegation, and the many other incredible Republicans in Congress, who want to travel with me to celebrate our Historic First 100 Days on Tuesday. It is going be a TREMENDOUS day. I wish everyone could come with me, but this is a crucial week to work on “THE ONE, BIG, BEAUTIFUL BILL,” which will contain Massive Tax Cuts, Strong Border Security Measures, Major Military Advancements, Dramatic Deregulation, Powerful Spending Reforms, and more! It is much more important that everyone stay in Washington this week to work hard and fast on all of it – IT MUST BE DONE. We will unleash Economic Prosperity, and accelerate into the Golden Age of America. You will be missed, but your work is far too important to take any time off. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!

When I read some of the comments online about what the president posted, I had to chuckle to myself. People are ascribing all sorts of hidden motivations to fit certain points of view that Trump doesn't want this person on stage with him or doesn't want to be seen with X person, which is silly speculation and pure nonsense. When did Donald Trump ever have a problem calling somebody out on anything that has gotten his nose out of joint?

From a political standpoint, Trump is being quite honest here. We're almost to May, and Congress is slogging through budget negotiations that are critical to the rest of the time he has in office. They are laying the groundwork for the tax structure for corporations and businesses to make hard decisions if they are going to invest and grow over the next three and a half years. Once they get the budget passed and signed, there will be a pretty big party at the White House that everyone can attend.

In the meantime, this event in Macomb County will be celebrating his first hundred days in office, and there are some things they should do a victory lap even this early in his second term. Some of this was covered right here in the Detroit News:

Trump has tested the limits of what he can do by decree, but he’ll need Congress to achieve his promised tax cuts.

This is 100 percent spot on and the reason for the message Trump gave on Truth Social. The Article One branch of the Constitution needs to get the job done, so the Article Two part can sign the bill and make it a law.

Trump has clearly made progress on a signature promise to control the border.

The number of people trying to cross illegally into the U.S. from Mexico dropped steeply in President Joe Biden's last year, from a high of 249,740 in December 2023 to 47,324 in December 2024. Under Trump, the numbers sank to only 8,346 in February and 7,181 in March.

So far this early in his term, this has been the biggest success and was the cornerstone of his campaign to win the election last year. Trump has proven that new laws by Congress were not needed, but the laws that were on the books just needed to be enforced, which 100 percent contradicts Joe Biden's claim that his hands were tied as president. Trump could next week decide he wants to resign and just play golf in Florida, and it would still be a huge achievement by any president, showing how, when laws are passed, the chief executive must ensure they are executed correctly.

Last year, Elon Musk pitched Trump on his idea for a Department of Government Efficiency, which would be charged with downsizing the federal bureaucracy. “I’d love it,” Trump replied.

They started out of the gate with government workers hitting the panic button, but it has now turned into a grind, which for something as massive as the federal government is not shocking.

The outcome has been mixed. Trump and Musk succeeded in sending shock waves through the bureaucracy and pushing out tens of thousands of employees, with more changes to come. However, significant savings haven’t materialized.

Musk lowered his targeted savings in the cost of government to $150 billion after originally promising at least $1 trillion. It's unclear if he'll hit even the smaller goal. DOGE has overstated its results.

This is the part of the equation, along with the budget, that Trump could make history as president. If he is able to stem government spending, cut waste and fraud, and restructure how we pay taxes, he will immediately be elevated to Mount Rushmore status.

He still has a long way to go before that.

However, the first hundred days have shown some amazing promise. One hundred days is just over three months, and we still have over 44 months to go.

If you're tired already after this brief period, take a nap and get ready for the rest of the show.

Team Trump has been thinking outside the box, and it’s refreshing after four years of Biden malaise.
