TOP O' THE MORNIN'

Mosque Reportedly Attended by Bourbon Street Terrorist Puts Out Very Concerning Statement

Let's be honest. If this were a Christian church putting out such a statement after one of its members committed a mass casualty terrorist attack, every legacy media outlet in the country would be digging deeper.

Vegas Cybertruck Explosion Suspect ID'd, Army Vet Served at Same Base As Bourbon St. Attacker (Updated)

Both incidents share haunting parallels, from the perpetrators' military backgrounds to their use of rented vehicles in acts of calculated destruction. At the center of this investigation is a shared history at Fort Bragg, a major U.S. Army installation in North Carolina.

Border Czar Tom Homan Issues Ominous Warning As Team Trump Prepares to Secure the Border

Clearly, Tom Homan — unlike disastrous, serial-lying Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas — is a pragmatic, linear thinker, meaning that he and his team are not only thinking ahead; they're taking steps to eliminate or minimize anticipated violence from the drug cartels who are likely desperate as Biden and Mayorkas are about to slither away, and Trump and Homan are about to enter office with a fierce determination to put an end to the insanity.

Today on Capitol Hill...

They're ba-ack....almost. The critters of the 119th Congress get sworn in tomorrow. As we've been discussing, the big question for Friday is whether Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will have the 218 votes he needs to be reelected as Speaker. He's got the backing of President-elect Donald Trump. Will that be enough? We'll soon find out.

There's a contest for DNC Chair, with several notables throwing their hat into the ring. Senate Majority Leader (for one more day) Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has declared that he's backing Ben Wikler, currently chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.

White House What's Up

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill will depart Camp David Thursday morning and return to the White House. In the afternoon, he'll deliver remarks on securing 235 judicial confirmations. Then, in the evening, he'll deliver remarks at a Presidential Citizens Medal Ceremony (as he bestows the award on Liz Cheney and Bennie Thompson (D-MS), among others).

There's a last-minute addition to Biden's Thursday schedule: At 12:15 pm ET, he will convene members of his homeland security team in the Situation Room to receive an update on the investigation into the terrorist attack in New Orleans.

Full Court Press...

It's a relatively quiet day for the courts Thursday as we kick off the new year. The Supreme Court doesn't start back up with regular oral arguments until the week of January 13. However, the court will be hearing oral arguments on the TikTok case on January 10 (and presumably rule soon after, in light of the looming January 19 deadline).

MORNING MUSING

We're at 18 days and counting. It feels like a weird mix of anxiously awaiting Christmas and for the other shoe to drop. The New Year started off rough — between New Orleans and Las Vegas and the multitude of questions these attacks raise, in addition to the heartache for the victims, it was a really heavy day. Maybe it's too much to hope that things will settle down a bit in 2025. Maybe we're just in permanent hair-on-fire mode. But I'd like to think not. It might not be as good for business, but I do rather miss the slow news days.
