Rosemary Gibson, senior advisor at The Hastings Center, a medical ethics think tank, joins RedState front page contributor Sarah Lee on The Heartland Daily Podcast to discuss her book “ChinaRX: Exposing the Myths of America’s Dependence on China for Medicine.”

As the trade debate intensifies across the globe, Gibson uncovers a new wrinkle in the conversation. She lays it all out in her book: the dependence the U.S. has on China for its prescription drugs, both brand name and generic. Gibson notes that this dependence is both a national security risk because China could choose to weaponize its control of the market, and is also an economic risk because they could raise the prices of drugs and make them harder to access. In her book, Gibson reveals how the U.S. finds itself at the mercy of China in the drug marketplace and what she thinks we need to do to untangle ourselves from Chinese dominance. Not surprisingly it involves, in part, bringing the manufacturing of drugs back to the U.S.
