Newspaper Cartoonist Who Mocked Conservative Concerns About Child Grooming Arrested on Child Porn Charges

The issue of child grooming has been something conservatives have been sounding alarm bells over for years thanks in part to leftist legislators who think introducing LGBTQ propaganda to children as part of the school curriculum is a good thing, and to educators who eagerly go along with it.

There has also been the rise of so-called "kid-friendly" drag queens, and hyper-sexualized content on Disney, with the latter's opposition to Florida's parental rights bill being one big flashpoint for the national debate on what was needed to be done to protect children - and the rights of their parents - from predatorial individuals and entities.

Disturbingly, these concerns have been met with outrage from leftist activists, political "leaders," and woke media figures, many of who have called conservative worries "overblown." Some even went so far as to get Twitter under its previous leadership to ban the use of the word "groomer" whenever it was used against any member of the LGBTQ community.

Among those pushing back on the campaigns to raise awareness on these issues was syndicated cartoonist Darrin Bell, a 2019 Pulitzer Prize winner whose work has appeared for decades in newspaper publications like the Washington Post and the Sacramento Bee.

Here is one example:

As it turns out, Bell's strident opposition to the term may have been masking an allegedly darker secret:

A prominent Sacramento-based comic strip creator, cartoonist and author has been arrested on suspicion of possession and creating child pornography.

Darrin Bell, 49, who won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning, was arrested Wednesday morning at his south Sacramento home by Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office investigators. Deputies had served a search warrant against Bell following an investigation by the Sacramento Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Detectives task force.

The Sheriff’s Office said it was the first arrest by the task force connected to AI-generated material, which was incorporated into existing child pornography law on Jan. 1.

According to a Facebook post from the Sacramento Sheriff's office, here's what went down:

Sacramento Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Detectives (ICAC) conducted an investigation stemming from a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) related to someone uploading Child Sex Abuse Material (CSAM), also referred to as child pornography.  The tip was related to 18 files containing CSAM.  The investigation continued, and a total of 134 videos of CSAM were located and linked to the same account, owned and controlled by 49-year-old Darrin Bell.

Yesterday morning (January 15), ICAC Detectives served a residential search warrant at Bell’s home. Detectives recovered evidence related to the case, as well as computer-generated/AI CSAM. Bell was subsequently arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for the possession of CSAM. He is currently in custody being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court on January 17.

News of Bell's arrest prompted some conservatives to point out how this didn't surprise them in the slightest:
