As we previously reported, Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) announced Tuesday that she was running for the Senate seat currently being held by Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
Though Porter frequently gets the “yaaas, qween” treatment from her Democratic colleagues and talking head commentators thanks to her “whiteboard” commentaries, the move was met with mixed reviews, especially considering that Feinstein, who is 89, has not yet announced if she’ll run for another term or will retire at the end of this one after serving 31 years in the Senate.
On the Wednesday “View” broadcast, several of the co-hosts including Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin threw major shade in Porter’s direction, with Hostin and Griffin in partcular calling Porter out for (barely) winning her bid for reelection before turning around and declaring her intentions for another office.
Hostin seemed particularly put off by the fact that Porter was throwing her hat into the ring for a big office like the Senate even though she’s just getting started on her second term, and both seemed to agree that it was a sign of disrespect for Porter to not understand who in so many words allegedly “paved the way” for someone like her.
Watch:
The View doesn't like that Katie Porter didn't wait her turn before challenging Dianne Feinstein.
Sunny whines this breaks Democratic unity.Of course, they're not upset that she fired a staffer and veteran for catching COVID. pic.twitter.com/IzoJYhTGDJ

Hostin even did a little bit of fangirling for Adam Schiff, who has also been putting out feelers for a possible run for Feinstein’s seat but who may be waiting for her to make it official first:
Treating it like a royal succession, Sunny huffs that Porter is also stepping on Adam Schiff's toes because he out-ranks her and should get Feinstein's seat first.

Alyssa calls Porter "super sharp" but argues that "she needs to know who paved the way for her" and leave the seat to Feinstein.
They also suggest Porter is too inexperienced to run for Senate.
Something tells me their attitude would be different if the seat was held by a man. pic.twitter.com/RiW1Qv2LAk— Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) January 11, 2023
Indeed, it’s kinda hilarious to see “The View” panel having the type of “she’s kinda cool but she should be waiting her turn behind Schiff” conversation that would have a panel of Republicans being accused of “sexism” had they made a similar argument.
Though Feinstein, who has repeatedly faced questions on the Democratic side about her mental fitness to lead, has said through her spokespeople that an annoucment about her future plans won’t be coming until spring, Porter making a statement move this early on exposes her to the possibility that even more skeletons will be pulled out of the closet by possible contenders (including Schiff) about how Porter reportedly treats staffers like absolute garbage.
Whatever the case may be, this looks to be the beginning of many popcorn-worthy moments between power-hungry Democrats to come in this upcoming Senate battle. So keep your pantry stocked up with that along with some hot wings in the freezer and your beverage of choice, and then buckle up because things are about to get really interesting.
