Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) grabs a water bottle during his response to President Obama’s State of the Union speech – 2/12/13. Screen grab via ABC News.
Red State’s Brandon Morse wrote Wednesday about how actor Chris Pratt was more or less forced into issuing a mea culpa after fellow actor Jason Momoa called him out over an Instagram photo where the “Guardians of the Galaxy” star was shown using a plastic water bottle while promoting Amazon products.
Here’s the “offending” photo:
Momoa chided Pratt in the comments. “Bro i love you but wtf on the water bottle. no single use plastic. come on.”
The image and Momoa’s remarks went viral, with social media users also lighting up Pratt for having the audacity to promote healthy living by way of using a dreaded single-use plastic water bottle (which, by the way, many people actually do reuse or otherwise repurpose).
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) took note of the “outrage”, and tweeted out a humorous reminder about how he, too, once was read the riot act after drinking out of a plastic water bottle in 2013 during his response to President Obama’s State of the Union address:
I too was caught with a single use plastic water bottle a few years ago and the media wouldn’t stop talking about it either.

Predictably, the moment was widely viewed and shared on social media, and was roundly mocked by political commentators and other media types, overshadowing what Rubio had to say:
“News” reports were even written at the time about the brand of water Rubio drank during his response, because #journalism and stuff.
To his credit, Pratt responded to Momoa good naturedly by saying “Aquaman! You’re completely right. Dammit. I always carry my big gallon size reusable water jug with me too. I even had it that day!!! Love you too buddy. My bad. I don’t want your home of Atlantis covered in plastic. Hear that kids? Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.”
Odds of Pratt being seen in public drinking out of a another single-use plastic water bottle somewhere in the near future? Very high. And that’s okay.
