Former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski came one step closer to putting on that tin foil hat Tuesday evening on CNN when he again suggested President Obama is not a US citizen.

Initially, Lewandowski was trying to make the point that President Obama shouldn’t comment on the election or the candidates.  Angela Rye, another CNN contributor on the panel, responded in defense of Obama that Donald Trump has been attacking Obama long before he became a presidential candidate, referencing the fact that Trump was one of the most outspoken critics of Obama when he pushed for Obama to release his Harvard transcripts.  Where Lewandowski took it from there – well, let’s just say his mentor would be so proud.

Don Lemon: “Let me ask you something, what is the importance of Barack Obama’s Harvard transcripts? How is it germane to the election?”

Corey Lewandowski: “Look the only reason it’s germane is because she brought the issue up and said Donald Trump raised the issue of his Harvard transcripts… And the question was: did he get in as a U.S. citizen or was he brought into Harvard University as a citizen who wasn’t from this country? I don’t know the answer.”

It was bad enough that Lewandowski entirely missed Rye’s point, which was that Trump waged war on Obama first.  It was also bad enough that Lewandowski’s rebuttal wasn’t just that Trump was a private citizen at that point in time—unlike Obama is now–  and was allowed to raise questions about a presidential candidate’s education and transcripts.  That seems like a clean way to respond to her point while managing to not look totally batsh** crazy, right?

But this guy, he was Trump’s right hand man.  It would make way too much sense to say something reasonable and on point.  The goal during this election season is apparently TO look batsh** crazy.  So, naturally Lewandowki opted for the “going off the rails” response and took the opportunity to jump straight into the birther conspiracy.

Keep in mind, the Obama birther conspiracy theory is now so crazy that Donald Trump himself isn’t even espousing it anymore.  You know, the same Donald Trump who still openly admits he believes Ted Cruz’s father was involved in JFK’s assassination.  That level of crazy.
