Adding him to the long list of high-ranking Russian military officials who have been assassinated since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The Investigative Committee released a few details, but did not name a suspect:

"According to available data, the explosion occurred as a result of the detonation of a homemade explosive device filled with destructive elements," the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

The statement did not say who might be behind the incident. Several high-ranking Russian military figures have been assassinated since the start of the war in Ukraine in operations blamed by Moscow on Kyiv.

Being a Russian military officer is a dangerous job, as there have reportedly been at least 22 generals and one admiral killed since war broke out with Ukraine (although Russia only admits to 11 generals). One of those was Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who was chief of Russia's Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops, and whom Ukraine's SBU intelligence service claimed they assassinated for his alleged use of chemical weapons.

There are some reports on social media that the latest bomber has been captured, but no official word on that has been released.

The apparent assassination occurs as President Trump is getting increasingly frustrated by Russian President Vladimir Putin's negotiation antics as Trump tries to get a deal to halt hostilities. Meanwhile, the U.S. President met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday at Pope Francis' funeral:

The Russian Federation has a violent past, a violent present, and will have a violent future if they continue on with their endless belligerence. Yaroslav Moskalik is just the latest in a long line who have found that out.
