Media Buries the Lede About the Big News Concerning LeBron James

We’ve covered a few stories about LeBron James lately and it probably isn’t much of a secret that James is very liberal. We wrote about his attack on Kyle Rittenhouse, mocking him crying in court. We also covered Boston Celtics center Enes Kanter Freedom blasting James for defending China and not caring about how they oppress their people despite James claiming that he cares about human rights.

Usually, the media – in covering a James story – is all in on positively covering him.

But the media seemed pretty reluctant to fully cover the story that hit the air about James today.

I was sent an ESPN story about the news on James.

Now if you looked at the headline and the first few paragraphs, you might have no idea what this story is about.

They talk about James going into “health and safety protocols.” If you’re not familiar with the term and many likely are not, you might think he injured himself. Talk about burying the lede. But many other media outlets followed ESPN’s lead, just saying that he’d entered the “health and safety protocols,” not being explicit in their headlines.

This is an extremely reluctant way of saying he has COVID, but ESPN didn’t even mention COVID in the story until the 13th paragraph. Even in that paragraph, they don’t say he has it — they just talk generically about what a player must do according to league rules if one has it. They don’t say anywhere in the article that he has COVID; they are that hesitant to even do that.

So, why is the media trying so hard not to say he’s got it in those simple and clear terms? Can we call it a pro-James bias?

ESPN does say that he got the vaccine in September and that he is “asymptomatic” (although asymptomatic from what — who would know, since they don’t say?).

James revealed on Lakers media day in late September that he had received the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I know that I was very skeptical about it all,” he said. “But after doing my research and things of that nature, I felt like it was best suited, not only for me but for my family and my friends. And that’s why I decided to do it.”

The article does note that he didn’t play last night and will likely be out for several games.

James already has missed 12 of the Lakers’ 23 games because of injuries and a suspension. L.A. is 7-4 with James this season and 5-7 without him. He will be out for at least 10 days or until he returns two negative test results in 24 hours.

This is another “breakthrough” infection, if he is truly vaccinated. So, can we stop calling them breakthrough infections at this point, when they still seem to happen frequently in the vaccinated? This is just one more piece of evidence that, yes, the vaccinated can get it, even while the media concentrates on demonizing the unvaccinated. They need stop demonizing the unvaccinated already — and recognize that anyone can get it, including the vaccinated.
