Al Sharpton stunned the media watchers on Monday when he issued a warning to Democrats that their “woke” agenda is pushing away Black voters.
In an interview with Joe Scarborough, the Reverend responded to the host’s complaints about “wokeism” by admitting that Black Americans have other things to worry about right now, something the Democrat Party seems wholly uninterested in.
Scarborough: Let me say it slowly for my Democratic friends in Washington D.C. Black voters are more conservative than you are, white woke leaders in Washington D.C. Hispanic voters are more conservative than you are, white woke leaders in Washington D.C. Asian American voters are more conservative than you are, white woke voters in Washington D.C. and they’re more conservative on crime, they’re more conservative on education, they’re more conservative on ‘these woke issues.’ Get off of Twitter!
Sharpton: They’re losing people of color because they really don’t get the people of color’s life. If you are living in a city neighborhood that is inundated with crime and you act like that is not an issue, you’ve already lost me. That is an issue. Yes, we must deal with policing, I’ve been out front with that. But you cannot ignore when 12-year-old kids, whose somebody’s niece and neighbor’s kid, get killed and you act like that’s a non-issue because you’re too elitist to live on the ground.
It was a revelation of sorts. If even Al Sharpton is saying all this has gone too far, things must really be bad.
I was less than impressed with his sudden moment of clarity. He’s right, of course, but this falls squarely underneath the umbrella of “too little, too late.”
Conservatives have been sounding the alarm for decades about progressive rhetoric and the hatefulness it engenders. Al Sharpton has been among the worse, labeling his ideological opponents as racists, bigots, segregationists, and just plain evil. For decades, conservatives and other reasonable people have begged Sharpton and his crowd to cool down the rhetoric. When you make someone “evil” you give “good” people permission to treat evil however they want to. You give those people permission to be as terrible and hateful as they feel they need to be. There are no moral consequences. This is evil we’re talking about, after all. Punch a nazi and all that.
But it’s worse than that. Such judgmental and provocative rhetoric gave shelter to all the worst ideas on the left. Because Sharpton’s rage was leveled squarely at the right, and Republicans, and because Sharpton “crowned” Democrats as the only arbiters of truth and justice, he also provided cover for the ideology of the left, which has never, ever, ever aligned with the general ideology of Black America.
The Democrats invented segregation, and then fought to keep it. Need I say more?
We spent years trying to convince Sharpton and Sharpton-adjacent Democrat followers that they were working alongside an ideology that was fundamentally opposed to everything Black Americans (in general) believe, desire, and fought for. Sharpton gave the Marxists the cloak of racial equality, and in doing so sealed the fate of the left. It was only a matter of time before the “fringe” became mainstream, and the ideologies of the Sharptons of the world would become not only useless to the left, but an obstacle.
Liberals are in trouble now. They’ve “woke” themselves right out of relevance on their own side, and they’ve spent so much time hissing and spitting at “evil Republicans” that there’s no place for them to go now. They let the inmates take over their asylum and they’ve demonized their ideological relatives.
My mother always told me it’s not polite to tell someone, “I told you so.”
But Sharpton left “polite” behind a long time ago, and even though I’ve never met him, I feel confident in saying he doesn’t care about politeness anyway. He’d prefer directness.
So…
WE TOLD YOU SO WE TOLD YOU SO WE TOLD YOU SO WE TOLD YOU SO.
Told ya so.
Now look at you. You’re supposed to be a representative for the Black community. Instead, you’re in a position where you have to align with people who want to feminize Black men and turn our little girls into boys. You have to align with people who promote the intentional murders of our babies in the womb, right inside the boundaries of our own communities, and then you have to smile and nod when those people call the culling of Black America in the womb “help.” You have to stand by and cheer and clap as young men push our young women out of athletics, and thus out of college scholarship opportunities — two things that have been traditionally been extremely important to Black Americans.
Now look. Look what you did.
We tried to tell you, but you called us evil and hysterical. Forgive me if I don’t find your message to your ideological cellmates “enlightened.”
You did this, Reverend. The least you could do is clean up your damn mess.
