ABC’s David Muir, who recently partnered with Vice President Kamala Harris in her debate against former President Donald Trump, showed why Americans no longer trust the establishment media.
In response to the criticism of how “moderators” Muir and Linsey Davis handled the debate, Muir simply referred to it as “noise.”
“All of the noise that you hear afterward about you know, ‘Which candidate won the debate, did the moderators win or lose?’” Muir told the audience on ABC’s “Live With Kelly and Mark.” “That’s just noise. You all know that. The most important thing to remember is you all have the power.”
Muir said he felt it was the “duty” of him and Davis to discuss issues Americans cared about, citing their questions about the economy, the border crisis, reproductive rights, Afghanistan and the peaceful transfer of power.
“These are all really important issues, the issues of our time, really, and I always say as a moderator, what the candidates decide to do with that time – you can ask the questions, but they’ll answer with whatever they choose to answer with, and you have to be ready for whatever might come your way, even the most unexpected of moments,” he said, to chuckling from the audience.
Meanwhile, it appears the backlash against Muir has gone further than simple criticism. The alleged journalist’s ratings dropped drastically after the debate.
ABC’s “World News Tonight” anchor David Muir may have driven away some viewers after the Disney-owned network irked conservatives during last week’s presidential debate.
Muir and co-moderator Linsey Davis fact-checked former President Trump five times without ever correcting Vice President Kamala Harris, prompting a plethora of conservatives to suggest the debate wasn’t fair. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America even called for a correction after Davis made an abortion claim made during the debate during one of the fact-checks on Trump that the group said was “100% inaccurate.”
Muir’s “World News Tonight” averaged 6.7 million viewers on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, the three episodes following the debate, after averaging 7.6 million in 2024 leading up to the debate.
The 12% drop in viewers for “World News Tonight” is more significant than slight declines “CBS Evening News” and “NBC Nightly News” saw when comparing the three episodes following ABC’s debate to the year-to-date totals, although Muir’s newscast remained the No. 1 broadcast evening newscast.
During a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Davis spilled the beans on how she and Muir prepared for the debate by studying Trump’s statements at rallies and in interviews so they could be prepared to fact-check him – and only him. The two “moderators” refused to give even a modicum of pushback when Harris told lie after lie.
Muir’s arrogant response to those rightly offended by his posturing during the debate further shows how members of the once-vaunted Fourth Estate have stopped pretending to be objective. The two “moderators” were clearly prepared to partner with Harris to help her win the presidential election in November.
Candy Crowley Is No Longer the Worst Presidential Debate Moderator of All Time
These people are not focused on informing their audience or giving the candidates a fair shot at articulating their policy differences so the American people can make informed decisions. No, they seek only to influence their audience to vote for their preferred candidate. For them, it’s about the cause, not their audience.
This is why Muir was so cavalier about the matter, even though he lost viewers. The activists in the media are willing to take the hit as long as it means Harris is elected, which is one of a plethora of examples illustrating why nobody should trust these media figures any longer.
