Routh was arrested Sunday after being shot at by Secret Service agents on Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course where the former president was playing a round.
He allegedly aimed a rifle through the fence on the golf course where Trump was. He was about 300-500 yards away. Law enforcement claimed he had an AK-47 with a scope and a Go-Pro camera at the fence. He also had a bag with ceramic plates. The Secret Service fired at him and he fled in a black SUV. A citizen saw him and took a picture of his license which the citizen gave to police. The suspect was later caught on the highway by the Martin County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff William Snyder said the suspect was "calm" and not armed when he was stopped. He is now in custody.
Reports suggest that Routh had an extensive criminal history, including convictions between 2002 and 2010 for possession of weapons of mass destruction and carrying a concealed weapon. He had donated to Democrats multiple times and voted in Democratic primaries. Pictures of his vehicle with a Biden-Harris sticker later surfaced on social media.

Other reports suggest Routh had camped out in his position for about 12 hours before being spotted by the Secret Service.
It's not a mystery when Trump is at Mar-a-Lago, you can easily see his plane at the airport. Also not a mystery that he plays golf on Sundays. What IS a mystery is how this dude hid for 12 HOURS IN THE BUSHES and WASN'T spotted by Secret Service. https://t.co/58cWMGX8fK

Federal authorities are still investigating the incident, but Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis recently announced that state law enforcement will be conducting their own investigation into the matter.
