Stop me if you have heard this one before: "If more black people started becoming gun owners, Republicans and conservatives would begin ardently supporting gun control legislation."

If you have been paying attention to the gun debate for longer than ten minutes, you have probably seen a fair number of anti-gunner progressives making this claim, typically with a self-satisfied smirk on their stupid faces. Indeed, I have seen many on the left say this while absolutely believing they made a clever or compelling point.

They are like a kid riding his bike with no hands for the first time.

Recently, I came across yet another rocket scientist trotting out this trope on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Here’s another one from last year.

This trope has become so popular among anti-gunner leftists that there were even memes created mocking it.

Indeed, I had to write a satirical piece last year poking fun at leftists who think they are “owning the cons” by saying this silly crap.

Progressive activists concerned about gun violence are launching a campaign to drum up the support they need to pass more restrictive gun laws. The group plans to purchase an AR-15 for every eligible black American to scare Republicans into backing stricter regulations on firearms.

To non-thinking people, this anti-gunner logic might make sense. But to those who possess an IQ higher than my shoe size, it is easy to debunk.

For starters, black gun ownership has risen drastically over the past three years. More and more black folks, including myself, became first-time gun buyers during this time period.

NSSF surveys of firearm retailers showed that African Americans purchased firearms in 2020 at a rate of 58 percent higher than 2019. Hispanic Americans, at the same time, were purchasing firearms at a 49 percent higher rate and Asian Americans at a 43 percent higher rate. That trend continued into 2021, where 60 percent of firearm retailers surveyed said the increased traffic from African Americans, Hispanic Americans and Asian Americans remained the same. Nearly 45 percent of firearm retailers reported an increase of African American gun buyers in 2021 and Hispanic Americans were reportedly buying firearms at 37 percent higher rates, along with a 27 percent increase of Asian Americans.

So, where are all the gun control laws that Republicans were supposed to be championing? By and large, Republican politicians and conservative influencers are still vehemently opposed to the gun control laws Democrats so badly want to make a reality.

Indeed, right-leaning organizations are filing lawsuits all over the place to strike down gun restrictions in light of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Bruen.

In fact, when I wrote a piece about Dexter Taylor, a black man being targeted by New York for the unpardonable sin of manufacturing his own firearms, RedState readers contributed quite a bit to his GoFundMe campaign to help with his legal battle against the state.

Some racists you are, dear readers.

But let’s cut through the crap, shall we?

The reality is that Democrats are once again practicing what Josef Goebbels preached: Always accuse your enemy of that which you are guilty of.

If there is anyone who wants to strip black Americans of the right to keep and bear arms, it is anti-gunner progressives. These people seek to disarm Americans of all races. But the laws they pass disproportionately impact the people who need it the most: Black folks living in high-crime areas. If more of these individuals armed themselves, the impact of gun violence would drop precipitously, which is precisely why Democrats want them disarmed.

If you have read my work for any length of time, you have seen me point out how progressives want black folks and other racial minorities as a permanent underclass they can exploit to further their agenda. Why would they ever want to empower black folks to protect themselves instead of relying on the government when they can just ensure more of them are killed? They can then blame their deaths on bloodthirsty conservatives who dig guns.

The reality is that those using this trope are simply doing what progressives do best: leverage black Americans as a political weapon against their opponents. It has nothing to do with protecting our Second Amendment rights – nothing even to do with racism. It is all about weaponizing us against the right so they can push their agenda.
