In another disturbing chain of events, a trio of assailants have violently attacked several Jewish people in a Brooklyn neighborhood amid a troubling increase in antisemitic incidents happening across the country. The attacks are being investigated as hate crimes.

Law enforcement announced an investigation into the attacks on Thursday.

A trio of bigots beat up three Jewish strangers, including a 15-year-old boy, in separate attack during a 40-minute spree of hate crimes in a Brooklyn neighborhood, police said Thursday.

The mayhem began about 3:25 p.m. Saturday when a 40-year-old man walking home from a Midwood synagogue was confronted by the youthful attackers at Avenue L and E. 15th St., cops said. The assailants punched the victim multiple times  before riding off on a scooter

About 30 minutes later, one of the attackers yelled “Free Palestine!” as he and his accomplices punched and kicked a 15-year-old boy at Avenue J and E. 17th St., police said.

Just five minutes they kicked a 27-year-old man multiple times at Avenue L and E. 18th St. before running off.

All three victims suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

The attacks have left the community shaken. The timing is of particular interest given that the suspects carried out the assaults on Shabbat in an area with a high Jewish population. The New York Police Department is actively hunting for the three individuals suspected of committing the crimes.

This incident marks the latest in a series of violent incidents against Jewish people.

Bias crimes in the city increased by 124% in October compared to October 2022, according to the Police Department data released Wednesday. Police counted 101 bias incidents in New York City in October, up from 45 in October last year.

Leading that surge was a spike in anti-Jewish incidents, of which 69 were reported last month in the city compared to 22 in October 2022 — a 214% increase, officials said.

“We’re feeling it 100%,” Bob Moskovitz, executive coordinator of the Flatbush Shomrim Safety Patrol in Brooklyn, said of the uptick in hate crimes. “Our hotline, which the community utilizes to report any incident has probably increased in this last month and a half by 300%. The phone is simply not stopping.”

In October, the same month highlighted by the NYPD’s crime stats, the Shomrim patrol received nearly 1,600 calls, Moscowitz said. .A normal call volume is about 500 per month.

The issue has been particularly pronounced in New York City due to its high population of Jews.

So far, this incident has not received attention from national establishment media outlets, which has been focused on an incident in Vermont in which three American students with Palestinian roots were shot. This occurrence is also being investigated as a hate crime. There appears to be a political influence in how larger news outlets are reporting on hate crimes against Jews and Muslims, against the backdrop of the Israel-Hamas war.

The bias in favor of Muslim victims was also on display when the Biden administration responded to reports of increased antisemitism by declaring its new initiative to “counter Islamophobia in the United States amid backlash from many Muslim Americans over its support for Israel.”
