Bud Light: To Boycott or Not to Boycott?

I haven’t bothered writing about the whole Bud Light/Dylan Mulvaney matter because, quite frankly, I’m tired of it. As someone who spends an unhealthy amount of time on Twitter, the over-the-top outrage over Mulvaney became so tiresome after a whole month of outrage over this guy that I finally had to mute his name as well as Bud Light.

However, when I saw reports of folks on the right pushing to boycott the company, which makes the worst beer imaginable, I thought I would chime in.

Donald Trump Jr. and others have come under fire for suggesting that conservatives should not boycott Bud Light over its relationship with transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney, who has enjoyed much of the promotion coming from conservatives outraged by his foolishness. Last week, Trump Jr. suggested that folks on the right should not boycott the company. The National Republican Congressional Committee seemed to agree after it deleted a tweet critical of Bud Light.

Of course, we can probably chalk this up to the fact that the piss water company has donated oodles of cash to the Republican Party over the years. “Donation filings show Anheuser-Busch is a sizable donor to the NRCC, giving the group nearly $465,000 in just the 2022 election cycle,” according to Fox News.

On his podcast last Thursday, Trump Jr. urged conservatives to stop boycotting Bud Light, referring to the company as “iconic.”

“So, here’s the deal. Anheuser-Busch totally s— the bed with this Dylan Mulvaney thing. I’m not, though, for destroying an American, an iconic company for something like this,” he said.

”The company itself doesn’t participate in the same leftist nonsense as the other big conglomerates,” he continued. “Frankly, they don’t participate in the same woke garbage that other people in the beer industry actually do, who are significantly worse offenders when I looked into it. But if they do this again, then it’s on them. Then, screw them.”

Naturally, the former president’s son got raked over the proverbial coals on social media. But I won’t bore you with the details of his roasting.

Others on the right have encouraged the boycott. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who will be announcing his bid for the presidency any minute now, appeared with political commentator Benny Johnson on Monday and told him that he would no longer be drinking Bud Light. He indicated that the company is “trying to change our country, trying to change policy” and also “trying to change [the] culture.”

“Why would you want to drink Bud Light? I mean like honestly, that’s like them rubbing our faces in it, and it’s like these companies that do this, if they never have any response, they are just gonna keep doing it,” the governor said.

To be clear, I have been boycotting Bud Light since the day I became of drinking age, and even before. But it has nothing to do with politics. It has everything to do with the fact that Bud Light tastes like carbonated water mixed with hippo urine, and I would not be caught dead – or alive – drinking that swill. Give me a nice, thick porter or stout. I’ll even take an IPA. But offering me Bud Light will push me to violate the non-aggression principle.

Anyway, I have no problem with boycotting. It’s an issue that has come up numerous times on the right when it comes to companies that insist on bowing down to the altar of wokeism. While I oppose using the government to stop companies from expressing political views, I am all for using the free market to make our displeasure known.

If we want these companies to stop trying to wokify the culture, it makes sense to hit ‘em where it hurts: Their wallets. After all, the left has used this tactic to great effect. The bottom line is that these businesses will continue shilling for the hard left as long as they fear that mob more than they fear us. So, boycott away my friends, and raise a pint of Guinness in my honor when you do so.
