Shocked! Shocked! Boston's Trump Derangement Syndrome-Laden Mayor's Campaign Funded by Chinese Official

Birds of a feather, as the old saying goes, really do flock together.

In yet another case of a Democrat politician receiving some baksheesh from someone you really don't want paying American elected officials, Boston's far-left Mayor Michelle Wu took donations to her 2021 campaign from a Chinese national associated with the Chinese Communist Party's intelligence agency.

I mean, what could possibly go wrong with that? The Daily Caller's Philip Lenczycki has details.

Boston Democratic Mayor Michelle Wu’s 2021 campaign received hundreds of thousands of dollars from a fundraiser who is listed by a Chinese intelligence agency as an official, a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation discovered.
Gary Yu, the founder of Boston International Media Consulting, helped raise over $300,000 for Wu with the help of a Chinese civic association he leads. However, Yu — whose Chinese name is Yu Guoliang — is listed as an official by an agency of a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) influence and intelligence service called the United Front Work Department (UFWD), and also operates as a recruiter for the Chinese government, according to reports from the CCP, Chinese state media and civic associations led by Yu.
“The Communist Party’s UFWD never rests,” author and China expert Gordon Chang told the DCNF. “There is no ethnic Chinese official in America who is not targeted. It’s time for law enforcement to investigate the CCP’s ties to Gary Yu and Yu’s ties to Mayor Michelle Wu.”

One thing that's becoming apparent to anyone who hasn't been living under a flat rock in Patagonia for the last few years is that China has been pushing for influence not only in the United States but globally, anywhere they can find it. And with Donald Trump turning the tariff screws, they are no doubt going to ramp up their efforts to influence Democrats.

Michelle Yu would seem to be a primary target. And, a willing one, to boot.

Yu has repeatedly met with high-ranking CCP intelligence leaders in China and is listed as an official by two regional branches of a UFWD arm, according to Chinese government announcements, state media reports and records from Chinese civic associations led by Yu.
The UFWD’s operations are a “unique blend of engagement, influence activities, and intelligence operations that the [CCP] uses to shape its political environment, including to influence other countries’ policy toward the [People’s Republic of China] and to gain access to advanced foreign technology,” according to the House Select Committee on the CCP.

Now, look at the last bit of that quote: "...to gain access to advanced foreign technology." That's telling. China has been notorious for intellectual property (IP) and technology theft for years. Just look at the People's Liberation Army's latest fighter, the J-35, and note how eerily it resembles our F-35. And it's not just military tech; before my brother retired, he owned a small company building high-end stereo speakers. He regularly attended conventions for makers of speakers and stereo equipment, and would describe to me how the Chinese companies would go around, snapping photos of everything new every American company had to offer - and then the next year they would be back, with their own versions, cheaper and lower-quality, but obviously a copy.

It's what they do.

That isn't, though, why they are seeking influence over American politicians. I think we can all figure out what the CCP's goals are in that matter.
