As I write this, there's a project happening in Budapest, Hungary, to restore the beautiful architecture it once sported before WW2 and communism destroyed it and built disgusting brutalist structures in its place. Known as the National Hauszmann plan, it aims to return Hungary's national identity and give Hungarians their architectural heritage back.
It's a much-needed revitalization project, and one that every country around the world could learn from, especially after grotesque modern architecture has become so normalized amid the brutalist architecture that became so popular in previous decades:

Architectural styles of various countries and regions are often very beautiful, but not only that, it's a style that represents a people. You can know where you are in America alone based on Federalist-style buildings or Antebellum-style architectural creations.

Implanted in these buildings is an identity. When you're abroad, you truly feel like you're seeing a different part of the world, its people, and its culture when you see these buildings. When you're home, these identity-based buildings feel familiar and comforting.
Identity is important at the end of the day, and I feel like we've lost that understanding thanks to modern politics which puts an emphasis on identity.
But I would say that identity isn't something the left actually emphasizes. I would say its goal is actually to strip identity and replace it with one they provide. Ultimately, the left's true goal is the erasure of true identity. Their goal is for you to forget yourself, your heritage, your culture, and your people, and replace it with what they believe you should identify as.
I don't need to give you examples. Log onto X, and you'll see a myriad of examples of leftists being very forceful about accepting the identities they say are important, even to the point where they're willing to ruin lives if they don't accept their definitions.
The most popular example right now is the left's war on women's identities, which are in full-blown erasure thanks to the infection of the political-driven mind virus known as transgenderism. The left is constantly pushing for men to be accepted in women's spaces, from sports competitions to restrooms.
Men are also under attack, although they've been a tougher nut to crack. As you may have heard, the "Boy Scouts" are no more. Where once you had an organization that taught young men skills and generally being a good person, that identity has been stripped away. Now, the "Boy Scouts" is called "Scouting America," in order to make it inclusive so anyone can join, including girls.
The idea is that the scouts just became more inclusive. That's not what happened. The scouts were robbed of their identity, and as such, robbed of its purpose.
If everything is made for everyone, then it's not made for anyone. Mainstream culture has made "inclusivity" a virtue when, in many cases, it's not. Exclusivity is not an evil concept. In fact, exclusivity is part of what helps society function. You'll find that when you scratch the surface, these elitist leftists believe it too. You won't see them opening their homes to the poor and destitute they supposedly care for. You won't see them inviting them to their high-society functions and dinner.
Why rob everyone of their identity? Because depriving you of an identity makes you easier to lord over. An identity is individualistic. It gives you agency. It's a line in the sand that others better not cross. Identity is a home you can protect.
Tear down the buildings that make your region what it is and erect the same basic, eyesore structures of cement and glass you've seen in every other place and you lose that sense of home and belonging. Take away your very sexual identity, and the value of who you are as a person is decreased significantly. You become disposable as you lessen.
So identity is important. It's something the authoritarians and elite would rather you not have because identity makes you harder to control. It's good to know the difference between true identity and the identity they try to force on you, which ultimately is no identity at all.
