But I do trust some politicians more than others, and at the top of the list of people I trust in DC, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul sits at the top. 

Now, with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell making his way to the door...very slowly...the question of who will take his place is being raised. As it stands, Paul has already thrown his hat into the ring. As Ben Kew reported on Friday, Paul ran a poll on who should become Senate Leader. The poll, which he won overwhelmingly with 96.6 percent of the vote, was also given the thumbs up by Elon Musk.

Now, if we're being honest, a poll put up by Rand Paul is likely going to skew toward Rand Paul, and Musk also wondered what the polls put up by other candidates for the spot would say. My prediction is that the numbers would indeed be different...but Paul would still win by a landslide. 

Why? 

Because Paul is one of the few politicians that we can say truly cares about America, the American dream, and the American people's freedoms, not by words, but through actions. 

Paul is a very vocal opponent of how our tax dollars are spent, digging into the budget to see what ridiculous things we're spending our money on: 

For instance, Paul highlights how the U.S. government dropped a million dollars just to see if Japanese quail become more sexually promiscuous to each other on cocaine…and that’s not the only study. Paul indicated that there is a myriad of studies we’re wasting money on just like that one and while it’s mostly Democrats voting for funding these kinds of studies, it’s also big government Republicans signing the checks.

Paul also revealed a $70 million we paid for a hotel to be built in Kabul that ended with the contractor running off with the money without building anything. There was also $48 million spent on a “‘natural gas’ gas station” in a remote area of Afghanistan.

Paul has been on a one-man crusade to bring Dr. Anthony Fauci's wheelings and dealings with the Coronavirus kicking and screaming into the light. He treated the overarching attempt at authoritarianism under the guise of "safety" during the pandemic like it was personal, and he's been a nightmare to Fauci ever since. 

When our freedoms, rights, or our very lives are threatened by our own government, Paul has a solid track record of standing in the way. In fact, you may recall that in 2013, Paul conducted a 13-hour filibuster over then-AG Eric Holder refusing to rule out using lethal force against Americans inside the U.S. in "extreme circumstances." Paul planted his feet and, like a hero, halted everything in the name of saving American lives: 

So as we are reminded of this piece of historical trivia this day – the day Rand Paul filibustered the American Senate for 13-hours straight – let us also remember what he inspired, and what happens when a politician decides to stand on genuine principal…America will respond. No one else in the Republican party had the notion to stand and fight that day. It was only when one of their own took it upon himself that others fell behind to support him. Most of America wasn’t even paying attention to the potential moral boondoggle of the droning question until that day. Americans were reminded about the sanctity of our Constitution and why, even with the new threat of terrorism at our doorstep, we must protect the rights of due process.

In fact, if you were to explore the "RAND PAUL" tag on RedState, you would see what amounts to a very long list of heroic efforts, speeches, and interviews of a man doing his absolute best to pull back on the leash of our own government, and if possible, drag it backward. 

I've met Rand Paul in person. I'm not going to tell you he was overtly kind and warm. He wasn't super personable or smiling and shaking hands because that's what politicians are supposed to do. While that might sound like a knock against him, it's not. In fact, it's the opposite. 

Paul isn't here to play games and he's not going to pretend to be your best buddy. He knows how to play the game, but he plays it in his own way, and it's a way that clearly benefits the American people. He's not a flawless man, and I'm sure you can find a few instances here and there where you disagreed with his position, but Paul is far more real than all the others. He's not shy about his positions and he's willing to call a spade a spade. 

Rest assured, if Paul does begin pursuing the leadership role in the Senate he will have a massive amount of pushback from the establishment...and as far as I'm concerned, that too is an endorsement for Paul.
