Planned Parenthood is widely known for being the largest abortion provider in the United States and one of the largest donors to the Democrat Party to boot. However, with states making abortions either very difficult or impossible to get within their borders, the abortion giant is bleeding money.
No worries for them, though, as they’ve found a new massive source of income, and weirdly enough, it’s all the rage in our society.
According to The Federalist’s Abigail Shrier, Planned Parenthood went from abortion provider to cross-sex hormone trafficker for people looking to transition from one gender to the other.
Shrier caught a tweetstorm from “reproductive health assistant” at Planned Parenthood who blew the whistle on what’s going on within its walls. She then interviewed the woman who confirmed her identity and then proceeded to tell the story of how Planned Parenthood is now targeting children for sex hormone replacement:
The Planned Parenthood clinic where she worked was located in a small town of roughly 30,000. Abortions were the clinic’s “bread and butter,” something this employee fully supports. But, she noted, “trans identifying kids are cash cows, and they are kept on the hook for the foreseeable future in terms of follow-up appointments, bloodwork, meetings, etc., whereas abortions are (hopefully) a one-and-done situation.”
How significant is this revenue stream? I’ve never been able to obtain numbers on that, though the Planned Parenthood website for Central and Western New York states that: “Nationally, Planned Parenthood is the second largest provider of Gender Affirming Hormone Care.” It seems reasonable to conclude that hormone treatments—pricey as they are—now contribute materially to Planned Parenthood’s bottom line.
According to the employee, based on her recollection, 1-2 new biologically female teen patients seeking testosterone would arrive per day. A few reasonable assumptions and some arithmetic reveal that a shocking percentage of the town’s teen girls came through the clinic over just a few years.
The “health assistant” told Shrier that each day, teen girls would come to the clinic, sometimes with a parent or with groups of girlfriends all claiming that they have the trendy new mental illness of “gender dysphoria.”
“I think they were telling what they perceived to be their authentic history to them at the time. Like, I was a 13-year-old girl, you know. Everything is very dire, everything needs to be remedied immediately,” she said.
The woman was presented with a script to read to the kids, but it didn’t put too much emphasis on the patient’s history of evaluation.
“The questions that we asked were like, very closed-ended…It would be, ‘you know, at what age did this start’? Boom — that is it. ‘What kinds of dysphoria do you feel’? Boom — that’s it, you know? ‘What do you want out of your transition’? ‘Do you want top surgery?’ ‘Do you want bottom surgery’?”
After a time, the woman did see a pattern of the teen girls having suffered some form of abuse. Many were suffering from huge amounts of anxiety and depression and some even had self-harm scars on their arms. The woman told Shrier that they were instructed not to address the marks on their arms, just affirm the dysphoria and move on.
When she would present the girls a piece of paper that would detail the risks associated with hormone treatment, she noted that most of them didn’t really bother to read it. It seemed more like the trendy thing to do according to the woman, and Shrier was struck most about how this seemed more like a fun day trip for the girls than an actually serious moment in their lives:
Most interesting to me was the fact that, according to the employee, the girls would often arrive to the clinic with a group of friends. (For what other medical treatments do girls arrive with peer group in tow?) It smacked more of the gleeful trips teen girls once took to the mall for ear piercings than the sober medical treatment of a genuine mental health disorder.
What was the mood in the waiting room among these friends? “Super cheerful, giggly. It’s a fun thing,” she said, a touch of cynicism whetting her tone.
I asked her if she and the other nurses and reproductive health assistants didn’t think there was something suspicious about girls’ showing up in groups of friends for treatment—whether it didn’t cross the employees’ minds that peer influence might be at play. “It’s kind of one of those things where you just roll your eyes.” She told me. “The extent of our intervention” was to grant “their requests to start the hormone therapy.”
This is clearly disturbing on two levels.
For one, Planned Parenthood is finding new ways to profit off of ruining the lives of children. Now, not only do they kill them outright, but the ones that do survive are also being sold hormone treatments to feel like they’re swapping genders and doing what is potentially irreparable harm to themselves. The profits don’t stop flowing either way, and our nation’s children are still at risk.
The other is that our society has sunk so far into the transgender lunacy that it’s trendy to now swap genders. What should be treated as a medical emergency that should be looked into by doctors and psychologists is now considered a fun thing to do among girlfriends like getting a piercing or a tattoo.
Clearly, the left’s messaging is working on the youth who see transgenderism as a fun thing to do, not the dangerous, depression-inducing suicide risk that it is.
