At this point, I have to think the Trump administration is purposely baiting Democrats and their press allies into defending the indefensible, and the latest example comes courtesy of a judge in Wisconsin.
As RedState reported, Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested on Friday for allegedly helping an illegal immigrant escape an ICE arrest warrant. According to the charging documents, she directed immigration authorities into another room while she ushered Eduardo Flores-Ruiz out the side door.
Making matters worse was the fact that the illegal alien was in court over accusations of domestic violence, with his victims left sitting in the courtroom while Dugan facilitated his fleeing from ICE.

But as absurd as the judge's actions were, the responses have been even worse. Democrat politicians have lined up to claim this is an act of authoritarian fascism, claiming that the separation of powers protects Dugan from the consequences of the law. Sen. Ed Markey even appeared to call for violence, telling people to "rise up" against the Trump administration.
That brings me to CNN, which has been wringing its hands since the news broke. There was no question that Scott Jennings, one of the few conservative commentators on the network, was going to have a field day, and he did not disappoint.

The debate raged as Fmr. Federal Prosecutor Gene Rossi was incensed over the “spectacle” of arresting a sitting judge.
JENNINGS: "Why wouldn't you want to make a spectacle of it? I… pic.twitter.com/AEDFoNUoQf
ROSSI: You have the right to get an arrest warrant, and you have the right to get a summons, and that they got an arrest warrant for a judge shows that they wanted to make this a spectacle. Last point I want to make is, I indicted, I presented to a grand jury, and indicted a state prosecutor. I indicted a prosecutor, and I got a summons because I didn't want to make a spectacle.
Let's stop there because this is just too ridiculous to let go. What Gene Rossi, a former federal prosecutor, is doing is essentially conceding the facts of the case (that Dugan did what she's alleged to have done) while trying to argue that it was improper for the Trump administration to arrest her because of the "spectacle."
Did Rossi ever make that case about any of the people around President Donald Trump who were frogmarched out of their homes by the Biden administration? Or what about Trump himself? If you're going to argue that judges deserve deference, didn't a then-former president deserve deference? Only now are these CNN flacks acting as if using measure exists, and that's a patently political complaint.
Jennings comes back with the perfect response.
JENNINGS: Why wouldn't you want to make a spectacle of it? I mean, the fact of the matter is, there are Liberal Democrat elected officials, not all are judges, some are mayors and others, all over this country who have said repeatedly since Donald Trump became the president that they would like to obstruct his principles and his program when it comes to deporting illegal immigrants. Here, you have this person, if these facts are proven true, obviously that's exactly what she's trying to do here.
(Crosstalk and arguing)
JENNINGS: Let me tell you my view. The spectacle is important because the message has to be sent to everybody else, "We are not going to put up...you have been elected by people to uphold the law, and some of the laws that have been most flagrantly violated in his country are immigraiton laws. You've got to get on board with upholding all the laws.
In other words, the spectacle is part of the point. Yes, if the facts of this case are proven true, this judge committed a crime, but sending her to jail is only part of the equation. The other part is using her as an example and showing other judges and officials around the country that they will be treated just like every other alleged criminal if they break the law. There will be no special treatment. There will be no summons orders to avoid the cameras.
And that is exactly what should happen. Rossi then goes on to say Kash Patel being "head of the FBI" is an embarrassment to the country, underlining his lack of a substantive argument. Keep in mind, these are the same people who cheered on the weaponization of the DOJ throughout the Biden years, only for them to now clutch their pearls over a judge being held accountable for probable criminal activity. Personally, I hope the Trump administration keeps this up. Democrats set these standards, and they need to be made to live by them.
