Former Vice President, failed Democratic presidential candidate, and climate extremist Al Gore—or as many like to call him, “Al Bore”—appeared on comedian/pundit Bill Maher’s program "Real Time" Friday night, but he probably didn’t get the welcome he expected. Perhaps he failed to notice that in recent times, Maher, although still a committed leftist, has been making a certain amount of sense and is unafraid to challenge progressive orthodoxy. The reason is simple: Maher sees that the far left has lost the plot and won’t win crucial future elections with their antics.

Gore, like seemingly all Democrats, compared Donald Trump and his followers to Nazis in a recent speech. Maher has seen and heard enough of that malarkey:

“I guarantee that the side of the country that voted for Trump, they hear Nazi and they just go, ‘Oh, you’re calling us Nazis,’” Maher explained. 

“First of all, it’s a bit of a false premise… And also it just says to them, ‘Well, you just hate us.’ And one thing I’ve learned in recent years is that the one force more powerful than money is hate.” 

“When people hate you so much, and when they think you hate them so much, even the money goes out the window.” 

Cutting to the heart of the left’s elitism, Maher added, “Well, you know, just to take a random example, you can’t even break bread with them. ‘We hate you so much that you’re a deplorable and you’re not worth having dinner with.’”

Maher’s willingness to call out Gore’s ineffective theatrics comes on the heels of another episode we’ve been covering: the left’s meltdown over the fact that Maher was willing to break bread with “Orange Man Bad,” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator and star, Larry David’s ridicuolous op-ed comparing the event to having dinner with Hitler. Seriously.

As Maher reminded him, Hitler killed six million Jews, and it’s more than a little disgusting to compare objections to tariffs to that kind of madness. RedState’s Katie Jerkovich wrote about Maher’s reaction:

“This wasn’t my favorite moment of our friendship. I think the minute you play the ‘Hitler’ card, you’ve lost the argument,” Maher said about the Op-Ed. “Come on, man. Hitler, Nazis — nobody has been harder, and more prescient I must say, about Donald Trump than me. I don’t need to be lectured on who Donald Trump is. Just the fact that I met him in person didn’t change that. The fact that I reported honestly is not a sin either.”

“First of all, it’s kind of insulting to six million dead Jews,” he added about the piece. “It’s an argument you kind of lost just to start it. Look, maybe it’s not completely logically fair, but Hitler has really kind of got to stay in his own place. He is the GOAT of evil. We’re just going to have to leave it like that.”

It’s kind of hard to take a man like Gore seriously when he's made numerous apocalyptic pronouncements about the climate only to have very few, if any of them, come true. It’s certainly worked to his benefit, though:

Maher can be confounding at times—just come over to the side of reason already, Bill—but I love that he called out “Mr. Irrelevant,” Al Gore. Enough with this Nazi garbage, Dems; it played a huge role in your party’s losses and will continue to do so until you realize, “that dog don’t hunt.”
