Jeff Bezos Makes Major Announcement About WaPo Editorial Page, and Liberals Are Apoplectic Over It

Billionaire Jeff Bezos announced on Wednesday morning that major changes are coming to The Washington Post. Long known as one of the most biased, left-wing news outlets in the country, the paper's editorial page is going to be completely revamped, and liberals are apoplectic about it.

According to Bezos, who owns the Post, instead of being a hotbed of progressive excess, editorials will now center on free markets and personal freedoms.

BEZOS: I’m writing to let you know about a change coming to our opinion pages.

We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets. We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others.

There was a time when a newspaper, especially one that was a local monopoly, might have seen it as a service to bring to the reader’s doorstep every morning a broad-based opinion section that sought to cover all views. Today, the internet does that job.

I am of America and for America, and proud to be so. Our country did not get here by being typical. And a big part of America’s success has been freedom in the economic realm and everywhere else. Freedom is ethical — it minimizes coercion — and practical — it drives creativity, invention, and prosperity.

I offered David Shipley, whom I greatly admire, the opportunity to lead this new chapter. I suggested to him that if the answer wasn’t “hell yes,” then it had to be “no.” After careful consideration, David decided to step away. This is a significant shift, it won’t be easy, and it will require 100% commitment —  I respect his decision. We’ll be searching for a new Opinion Editor to own this new direction.

I’m confident that free markets and personal liberties are right for America. I also believe these viewpoints are underserved in the current market of ideas and news opinion. I’m excited for us together to fill that void.

Notably, those two topics are not partisan in nature, which begs the question of why left-wingers are rushing to cancel their subscriptions after the announcement. Phillip Bump, who writes for the Post, simply posted, "What the actual f***."  So yeah, he's probably not keeping his job under the editorial board's new direction.

Shorter: Left-wingers live in an alternate reality where everything, regardless of financial realities, revolves around their ideological viewpoints. The Washington Post is bleeding money and has been for years, with the paper losing $100 million in 2024 alone. It simply can't survive continuing to be a plaything for progressive lunatics. Bezos recognizes that and is attempting to change course.

Naturally, the spoiled brats who work for the Post can't fathom that and are instead taking shots at their boss.

If I were Bezos, Jeff Stein would be fired by lunch. The inmates have run the asylum over at the Post for far too long, and they think they can do and say whatever they want without consequence. If Bezos truly wants to save his paper, he has to take a chainsaw to that culture.

With all that said, will this save the Post? Almost certainly not. Conservatives are never going to trust that dumpster fire of a news outlet again, and there's very little reason to believe the new editorial direction won't simply be subverted by whoever Bezos brings in to run it. Meanwhile, left-wingers will not abide any shift back towards the middle of the country, and they are the types of people who currently subscribe to the Post.

So I foresee this failing, and when it does, progressives will scream they were right about Bezos' attempts to change course. They won't have been right, though. The Post was pushed into failure by them. This is their fault.
