After months of back and forth over whether the State of Virginia would be allowed to purge non-citizens from its voting rolls, the Supreme Court has stepped in with an emergency stay.
That came after a lower court previously ruled that non-citizens must be put back on the rolls.

The Department of Justice had sued Virginia in an attempt to stop the purges from happening. After the lower court ruled in the Biden administration's favor, followed by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals denying a stay, an emergency stay was then requested at the Supreme Court level by Virginia. Despite those being relatively rare, one was handed down within days.

Many people are still left asking how this ever became an argument. Democrats have long pronounced that further election integrity measures aren't needed because non-citizens voting is already illegal. Yet, when a state attempted to follow through by preventing non-citizens from voting, they were sued. The inconsistency was obvious.
For now, though, this is the final stop before the election. Virginia will be allowed to do what it needs to do to clean up the voter rolls and disqualify illegal votes. This is a big win as we approach the final days of voting.
