The murder of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller has gripped the nation as yet another example of the insane, self-destructive policies in New York City and other blue bastions. Diller was executing a traffic stop when career criminal Guy Rivera, who had been arrested 21 times prior, shot him to death.
In the aftermath, Democrats at all levels of government, including the White House, have tried to blame "gun violence." As RedState reported, though, the NYPD police union wasn't buying their gaslighting. On Wednesday, they officially uninvited various New York politicians, who are essentially all Democrats, from attending Diller's wake.
The president of the New York City Sergeants Benevolent Association, Vincent J. Vallelong, warned city NY city council members that their presence would not be welcomed at Saturday’s scheduled funeral for Jonathan Diller, the 31-year-old officer who was slain in the line of duty in Queens Monday evening. The alleged perp, who shot the officer during a routine traffic stop, had 21 prior arrests and should have been languishing behind bars, not committing crimes on the streets of NYC.

In simpler times, perhaps such a move would be seen as politicizing a tragedy, but we don't live in simpler times. We live in times where Democrat politicians purposely pursue "social justice" reforms that lead to nothing but death and destruction. The time for decorum has long since passed, and the NYPD union absolutely made the right call telling the city's elected officials to get bent.
Officer Diller would be alive right now if it were not for Democrat policies that demanded a career criminal like Rivera be put back on the street over and over. What makes this all the more ironic is that the killer was arrested for a gun charge in April of 2023. Less than a year later, he was back on the streets to murder a police officer.
Think about that. Democrats are constantly crying about the need for more "gun control," yet when it comes to criminals in blue jurisdictions, none of the current gun laws are even being thoroughly enforced, all in the name of "social justice." The far left wants to take guns from law-abiding citizens but won't fully prosecute a career criminal for breaking gun laws that already exist. It's absurd.
That's why the NYPD union lashing out at New York's politicians is the proper response. None of this changes if everyone goes along to get along. New York's mayor and city council need to feel the pressure for what they've done to their residents. Likewise, voters must face the consequences of their voting habits, which means seeing these tensions explode into the open without faux shows of unity is necessary.
In response to all this, Democrats will claim the overall crime rate is going down. Shock of shocks, when you stop prosecuting crimes, the "crime rate" decreases. If only mid-90s Los Angeles had thought of that. Left-wing social justice policies are turning major cities into absolute hellholes.
A sane city government would have never allowed Rivera to still be on the street after 21 arrests, and Officer Diller would have arrived home safely to his wife and children. Enough is enough, and whatever the NYPD has to do to make this as painful as possible for New York's political class is completely justified.
