As I’ve opined before, I believe this is all too little and too late, but on the off chance that you are still placing faith in the Senate investigation into Crossfire Hurricane, the investigation launched against the Trump campaign, this will probably be welcomed news. After months of mostly inaction and allowing figures like Sally Yates to get away with avoiding basic questions, the Senate GOP has dropped a major announcement.

Sen. Ron Johnson is requesting all documents related to Crossfire Hurricane. This is not a request but a subpoena, and one has to wonder why it took this long.

August 20th is a short amount of time to comply with the subpoena, so I expect plenty of excuses to start flowing from the FBI. Christopher Wray has been a company man his entire tenure, which he never should have been given. He has steadfastly stonewalled and blocked document releases that could provide the fuller picture of what went on during the 2016 election. To the extent that he has provided documentation, it’s been the result of forcing him to do so while he kicks and screams the entire way.

As to what may be found, we’ll have to wait and see. It’s possible more text messages and memos could shine a light on motive. We’ve already seen how the memo involving the original Flynn FBI interview so changed the game. That Johnson is requesting everything is good, though it’ll be tough to ever prove what is given over is truly “everything.”

Wray himself will be presenting the documents, as this subpoena requires him to give testimony before Congress on the same day. The fact that the Senate even had to subpoena him at all is ridiculous. When you are head of an agency that gets caught red-handed in a corruption scheme, maybe cooperating might be in order? But the game has always been to run out the clock. Almost every bureaucrat in Washington is banking on Trump losing so not only this, but all attempts at reform go away. They want the status quo and Wray has been largely successful with his delay tactics.

Meanwhile, the Durham investigation continues to be nothing but a tease, constantly promising big action as we inch closer to the election. Perhaps this all drops in October and is a game-changer? But I’m more inclined to believe the further this drags on, the easier it will be for people to dismiss the revelations. There’s very little excuse for Durham’s investigation and the Senate investigation to still be ongoing. We had years to deal with all this immediately and now we are only a few months away from possibly seeing any progress lost.
