Last week, my colleague Brandon Morse shared what’s become a yearly tradition for Sen. Rand Paul. I’m talking about the traditional “airing of grievances” over just how wasteful our government is when it comes to spending. Paul’s list came at the same time Congress was ramming through another ridiculous omnibus bill full of forehead smacking expenditures.
What are they spending money on? Well, you’re not gonna like it. Here are just a handful of them.
- The State Department is spending $15,825,000.00 on free college for international students
- The NIH and NSF are spending up to $1,200,000.00 to study online dating user habits
- USAID is spending $20,000,000.00 to teach Lao to Laotians
- The State Department is spending $2,000,000.00 to improve TV programming in Moldova
And it just kept going from there.
Well, Paul was back today and Festivus has been extended. He went on an epic Twitter tear that every American who cares about fiscal responsibility should read and absorb. It’s just so absurd.
Good morning and Happy Festivus! Today there will be many, many grievances aired, almost all in good fun. pic.twitter.com/I0t9fRD27N

Clearly, we needed a nearly $5 million study to figure out that getting drunk leads to increased risks of ending up in the emergency room. Who could have ever guess that except every college student in existence?

There’s plenty more, but you get the idea. Paul also spent some time ripping on impeachment. The thread really is worth your time.
Meanwhile, Republicans and Democrats alike will continue to insist it’s just too tough to cut spending. Obviously, everything listed above is deeply needed and must be paid for with your tax money.
Washington D.C. is so broken and almost everyone there is to blame.
