Trump Drops Massive Clue About Midterm Messaging During Oval Office Meeting With Salvadoran President

Common sense was clearly on the agenda at Monday's White House meeting between President Trump and El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, during which the two leaders offered comments from the Oval Office on everything from deportations and tariffs to Iran's nuclear capabilities and men playing in women's sports. The two presidents clearly get along well, with Trump noting he's known Bukele for a long time, and voiced a shared appreciation for common sense solutions to their respective countries' problems.

As RedState reported earlier Monday afternoon, it was CNN's Kaitlan Collins who garnered the big headlines after getting absolutely reamed out by Trump and Bukele, not to mention Attorney General Pam Bondi and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, for asking if Bukele would be returning now-deported MS-13 gangbanger Kilmar Abrego Garcia back to the United States. A clearly-disgusted Bukele told Collins her question was "preposterous," stating emphatically that he had no intention of smuggling a terrorist into the U.S.

The back-and-forth between the men and the media showed that common sense isn't so common anymore, particularly in the media, as was on brilliant display with Kaitlan Collins. President Trump, in fact, addressed the issue of common sense, saying that his approach to governing isn't based on being a conservative or a liberal, but instead on -- you guessed it! -- common sense. An approach with which President Bukele heartily agreed.

This approach was apparent when the two leaders discussed the issue of men participating in women's sports, something Democrats support with a great amount of zeal despite 8 out of 10 Americans opposing it. Put a pin in that statistic; we'll get back to it in a moment.

President Bukele told of how, in his country, feminists lobbied for years to get legal protections for women who were victims of abuse at the hands of men. After succeeding to get women those protections, those same "women's rights" advocates are now backtracking and trying to enshrine legal protections for men to participate in women's sports. Bukele rightly concluded, "That's violence."

Trump agreed with the absurdity of it all, noting that, all of a sudden, long-held sporting records held by women were being smashed to smithereens by biological males. This is where the president drops the hint about his messaging for next year's midterms:

TRUMP: I don't like talking about it [men in women's sports] because I want to save it for just before the next election. I tell my people, "Don't even talk about it," because they'll [Democrats and the left] change.

And he's exactly right. Democrats will say or do anything to win elections (see: Kamala Harris), and any push by the Trump White House right now to hold the left accountable for their unwavering support for men in women's sports will lead to a sudden, electorally motivated flip-flop on the issue. The Dems can only hold out for so long against that 80 percent of Americans who stand in their way and support protecting female athletes; once elected, of course, Democrats will revert to a radical, pro-trans agenda because that's who they are and a little pushback from the electorate won't change them.

But we need to talk about it because there are some 2025 candidates who should follow President Trump's lead on this issue right now, and that includes Winsome Sears, who's running for governor in Virginia. Sears' Democrat opponent, Abigail Spanberger, voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023 when she was still in Congress; she showed her true colors again in this tweet in support of "Trans Visibility Day." Spanberger is a hard-left radical and must be made to account for her unpopular pro-trans stance.

Bottom line: Parent outrage helped Glenn Youngkin win Virginia in 2021, and it can do it for Sears in 2025.

We know where President Trump stands, having signed the Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports executive order, and that's firmly with parents, and with women and girls who deserve a level playing field. If Republicans across the country, especially those candidates with elections this year, are wise, they'll take that same message straight to the voters: Protect our daughters, defend fairness, and stop the left's radical agenda in its tracks.
