White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby appeared on "Fox News Sunday" with host Shannon Bream and claimed that it was actually former President Trump who emboldened Iran to attack Israel on Saturday and that the Biden administration’s release of billions of dollars in frozen funds to the Islamic Republic had little bearing on the matter.
As Biden himself likes to say, “C’mon man.”
If you have a drug-addicted relative, the one thing you certainly don’t do is give them money or even give cash to their acquaintances because said relative will certainly find a way to get their hands on it. To her credit, Bream pushed the former naval officer and asked how the release of the mountains of currency didn’t help the Iranian regime finance terror:
BREAM: Is it not fair to say, though, that there have been moves by this administration that have opened up cash and other opportunities for them, which we know are fungible in ways that are not helping the Iranian people but are benefiting the elites and people there who chant "Death to America?"
KIRBY: The additional funds that have been made available to Iran due to the sanctions relief program that the Trump administration put in place, can only be used for humanitarian goods. It doesn't go to the regime. And the idea that the regime was somehow felt like they were freed up to support these proxies because of that. It just doesn't comport with the fact that they have been supporting these proxies for years.
Yeah, and all the aid money sent to Gaza goes to the citizens and not Hamas terrorists. Nobody believes that, Kirby.
Top spokesman John Kirby defends Biden enriching the Iranian regime with tens of billions of dollars through sanctions waivers and non-enforcement:

But Kirby went even further, implying that the current conflict is former President Donald Trump’s fault because he famously pulled out of the Iran Nuclear Deal. The only problem with that argument is that the deal was a hot, flaming piece of garbage, and Trump was right to ditch it.
"It's hard to take a look at what President Biden has done and say that we have somehow gone soft on Iran," Kirby responded. "It was the previous administration that decided to get us out of the Iran deal. And now Iran is so much dramatically closer to a potential nuclear weapon capability than they were before Mr. Trump was elected."
Biden and his administration never take accountability for anything that occurs on their watch—the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal, Russia’s war against Ukraine, the Hamas assault on Israel, and now the Iranian attack on the Jewish state. It’s Trump, Trump, Trump—and yet they’ve now been in charge for almost as long as Trump was and are three-quarters of the way through an entire presidential term. What happens on your watch happens on your watch and not the former president’s.
Until now, I have placed Kirby slightly higher in my esteem than most of the incompetents running the administration because he often at least seems to be trying to appear reasonable. But my naiveté was clearly misplaced as he lost any credibility he might have had with this silliness. Stand up, be man, admit that those funds should have remained frozen. Instead, it’s blame, blame, blame—and all the while, the world gets more dangerous as Bidenworld strokes their fiddles.
