You have to admit, sometimes half the fun of being a conservative is watching the left make utter buffoons of themselves. Their complete lack of irony is, at times, something to be truly marveled at — if it weren't so utterly dangerous. So, get ready, because the next big gathering of people who are obviously better than the rest of us is about to take place. On Thursday, the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference, known as COP 28, will get underway in Dubai. More than 70,000 people, a record turnout, are scheduled to attend.
Wow, that's a lot of people, you say. Yes, it is. How are all those people, those folks so concerned about climate change, some so concerned that they are flying around the world to commiserate with their fellow climate change alarmists, getting to Dubai? Well, of course, for most of them, on their private jets. Doesn't all that private jet-flying spew an awful lot of carbon emissions? Yes, it does. For every kilogram of jet fuel burned, 3.16 kilograms of carbon dioxide goes into the air. But these are VIPs, very important people. Their carbon emissions don't have any effect on the planet, just yours.
As you might expect, all of the usual suspects will be in attendance, because who would want to miss this extravaganza? Climate Czar John Kerry, representing the Biden administration, Bill Gates, and Britain's King Charles are all scheduled to be there. Pope Francis was also scheduled but is recovering from the flu and will not attend. Chinese President Xi Jinping is also not attending but sending a representative. Even Vladimir Putin's Climate Advisor, Ruslan Edelgeriyev, will be there.
The entire meeting is an exercise in hypocrisy and self-unawareness literally from start to finish. Once the attendees arrive at the airport, they have to get to the actual venue, Expo City. They will need plenty of taxis and limousines, all fueled by gas or diesel fuel. Oh, there may be a few in the crowd who might actually do what they advocate for the rest of us, like use electric vehicles to get there. But where does the United Arab Emirates (UAE) get 82 percent of its electricity from? Natural gas.
Then, the usual do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do will begin, with a splash of we-have-no-intention-of-doing-that thrown in. Xi Jinping has stated that China is committed to reducing the use of coal beginning in 2026, but in April, approved a major uptick in the use of coal power. Also, once there, the attendees will lecture the rest of the world on how they must move away from hydrocarbon fuels like coal, oil, and natural gas. Faith Birol is the executive director of the International Energy Agency and will also be in attendance. In 2021, she stated, “If governments are serious about the climate crisis, there can be no new investments in oil, gas, and coal, from now — from this year.” it is yet another example of how liberals fail to see the bigger picture. Because while Faith Birol may not want us to use gas-powered vehicles, she no doubt uses a cell phone, wears cosmetics, and wears clothes all made in part with hydrocarbons.
As the attendees dine on only the best culinary fare, there will also be representatives from the UN Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) to harangue the world on the evils of meat consumption. They will be encouraging Western nations to reduce meat consumption and move to more vegan and planet-friendly alternatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This is a cause near and dear to Bill Gates, who, by virtue of writing a book in 2021 entitled “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster," apparently has become a climate change expert. During a 2021 interview, Gates also stated that "Rich nations should shift entirely to synthetic beef." You go first, Bill.
The best part: All of these hypocrites will have the nerve to spend their time at this meeting wondering why the rest of us, the great unwashed citizens of the world, don't take climate change seriously.
