If you're pining for an IBM science apprenticeship, it's best that your britches are short a scrotum. Or it would be, if not for equity available at your nearest ladies' clothing store.
For those unfamiliar with the American Physical Society, the organization's website describes it thusly:
The American Physical Society (APS) is a nonprofit membership organization working to advance and diffuse the knowledge of physics through its outstanding research journals, scientific meetings, and education, outreach, advocacy, and international activities. APS represents more than 50,000 members, including physicists in academia, national laboratories, and industry in the United States and throughout the world.
Its values are the Scientific Method plus "Truth and Integrity;" and also these:
- Partnering, Cooperation, and Open Collaboration
- Speaking Out
- Diversity, Inclusion, and Respect
With respect to respect and diversity and inclusion, the group touts two training programs which respect diversity by constricting it via exclusion. Introducing the APS/IBM Research Internship for Undergraduate Women and Underrepresented Minorities. Per a promotional page, "The goal...is to encourage women and underrepresented minorities to pursue graduate studies in science and engineering."
Underrepresented Minorities qualifications are as follows:
Applicants must be underrepresented minorities (African American, Hispanic, or Indigenous) with sophomore or junior standing at a U.S. college or university at the time of application.
Hence, white and Asian students needn't apply.
Regarding the APS/IBM Internship for Undergraduate Women, men of course aren't welcome -- but scratch that if they're willing to wear itchy bras to work:
Applicants must be female, including all students who present or identify as women and/or trans women with sophomore or junior standing at a U.S. college or university at the time of application.

Apropos of identity, whites and Asians might make a case for their acceptance into APS/IBM's Underrepresented Minorities offering. Provided information appears to indicate they can simply say they aren't white or Asian:
Any student who identifies as a woman and an underrepresented minority is eligible to apply to both internships.
If that doesn't work, perhaps they can identify as "Indigenous." According to experts, American Indians' progenitors came from Asia by way of the Bering Strait. Hence, Asians are relatives of the nation's tribes. Subsequently as well, we're either almost all indigenous or nearly all immigrants -- some of our ancestors just got here earlier than others.
Meanwhile, the American Physical Society's diversity/inclusion is par for the modern course. As I've previously written:
[T]hings seem more sophisticated than ever. Among such complexity, it’s understandable that powers which force inclusivity upon us might accidentally include exclusion by excluding inclusion. Hopefully, they’ll at some point include in their endeavors a dictionary, so they can include an understanding of the word “inclusive.” Until then, we’ll just have to keep excluding more things until everything is somehow included.
Ours is an era of specialization, boasting exclusive opportunities based on sex and skin color. Mercifully, those in charge realize that what someone says they are is 100 percent of the time what they truly are. So if you're an aspiring physicist with a phallus, shroud it in Victoria's Secret; that works for a society with "physical" in the name. And if you're white or Asian but would still enjoy an internship, identify as an acceptably-shaded student of natural science. Wokeness, naturally, is now the most superior science of all. Long live the triumph of "Truth and Integrity."
