There's an old saying that goes "an empty vessel makes the most noise." Assuming the truth of that, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) sounds like 10,000 Gender Studies majors pounding baseball bats against the sides of an empty oil tanker. In her latest outburst, she is going after a dance performance by members of the New York City Police Department.
The progressive Squad's Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., joined critics of the New York City Police Department's dance team – but not over concerns about crime.
"How many school music programs got defunded for this," AOC, who notoriously has supported the defund the police movement, wrote on X.
The NYPD's dance team recently performed live for the local PIX 11 news station, sparking swift condemnation online that the department is not focusing on combating crime or enforcing the law. Other critics who spoke to Fox News Digital said they found the video offensive not only to taxpayers, but also to women who work in law enforcement.
It's often not advisable to read X comments, but in this case, some of the replies are roundly entertaining.

The great irony here, of course, is AOC's membership in "The Squad," an assemblage of progressive politicians, most of whom make Leon Trotsky look like a flaming right-winger. The Squad has called for defunding police (while spending heavily on their security) and its members support progressive, criminal-friendly district attorneys, but a dance troupe? Bring that along and suddenly AOC is in favor of cutting government spending.
Never mind that keeping public order is one of the few legitimate roles of government, and in New York and other major cities, they are failing at this task.

To be fair, there's an argument to be made here that coming up with, of all things, a dance troupe, is a waste of the New York City Police Department's time and money. In that sense, AOC has indeed found an acorn. But that acorn will not grow into a mighty oak of insight and common sense on the part of the New York Congresswoman; she has not obtained any significant number of clues from this incident, and acorn or not, her stock of clues remains as it was, empty.
As to that acorn, though, one would think that the New York Police Department has better things to do with its time and the taxpayer's money.
The NYPD released the citywide January crime statistics showing that robbery increased by nearly 6% as well as a small increase in grand larceny. Authorities added that crimes in the subway and transit systems, which accounts for just 2% of all major crime committed in New York City, saw an increase of 70 index crimes (222 vs. 152) in January.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez represents much of what is wrong with American politics today, wrapped in one little socialist package. She is vapid, clueless, profoundly ignorant, not terribly bright, but full of more self-righteousness than any assemblage of temperance advocates ever to protest a speakeasy. She is vocal - boy, howdy, is she vocal. Even when she does come across an issue that is worth criticizing, even then, she goes about it with no self-awareness of her hypocrisy.
Sadly her Congressional district is one of the safest in the country, and would elect a stuffed armadillo if it carried a "D" on the ballot. So we are liable to hear AOC pounding on that empty oil tanker for a good long time to come.
