Trumponomics Will Cost Me My Job And Yours Too

Donald Trump and his wall of garbage
Donald Trump and his wall of garbage

Tuesday Donald Trump gave a speech outside Pittsburg on trade and economics.

You don’t need to listen to a word of it to know how terrible it was, all you need do is look at the giant pile/wall of garbage behind him the whole time, that there tells the story.

Trump went on and on and on about tariffs and starting trade wars with the likes of China, while saying virtually nothing about taxes or curtailing the federal governments regulators at the EPA and elsewhere.

This is pretty much how Trump’s whole speech went:

I am going to withdraw the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which has not yet been ratified…I’m going to appoint the toughest and smartest trade negotiators to fight on behalf of American workers…I’m going to direct the Secretary of Commerce to identify every violation of trade agreements a foreign country is currently using to harm our workers. I will then direct all appropriate agencies to use every tool under American and international law to end these abuses…I’m going tell our NAFTA partners that I intend to immediately renegotiate the terms of that agreement to get a better deal for our workers. And I don’t mean just a little bit better, I mean a lot better. If they do not agree to a renegotiation, then I will submit notice under Article 2205 of the NAFTA agreement that America intends to withdraw from the deal…I am going to instruct my Treasury Secretary to label China a currency manipulator. Any country that devalues their currency in order to take advantage of the United States will be met with sharply…I am going to instruct the U.S. Trade Representative to bring trade cases against China, both in this country and at the WTO. China’s unfair subsidy behavior is prohibited by the terms of its entrance to the WTO, and I intend to enforce those rules…If China does not stop its illegal activities, including its theft of American trade secrets, I will use every lawful presidential power to remedy trade disputes, including the application of tariffs

This nation implemented trade and economic policies the likes of which Donald Trump is promoting. They were implemented by a Republican President, who was a businessman, named Herbert Hoover. The result of Hoover’s tariffs and trade wars, which Trump wants to repeat and replicate, created something history knows as The Great Depression.

Should the things Donald Trump wants to do with regards to trade and the economy happen it is a certainty that we will have not just a global recession, like in 2008, but a full-fledged Depression that will be Yuge.

My day job involves grain exports to mainly Southeast Asia(China, Japan, Indonesia, etc). Myself and tens of thousands of other workers all across the country only have our jobs because the Chi-Coms and others buy corn and soybeans from American farmers.

If you start jacking around with tariffs, if you start a trade war with China, one of the first things the Chi-Coms or any other nation will do in retaliation is cut back or cut off their grain purchases. That will have an immediate and negative impact on the whole of the US economy.

Any reduction in trade, any decline in US exports, is going to result in job losses on American farms, at US ports, at the rail yards, truckers will get pick slips, and so to will guys like me who provide third party independent testing for grain. Seed companies will shed workers due to farmers cutting back on their plantings, big Ag companies like CGB, Cargill, and ADM will all lay off people at their export terminals(and more). Just in the Ag related sector alone the job losses from Trump’s trade policies will be enormous.

Now multiply that across every other sector of the economy, personal electronics, automotive, heavy machinery, textiles, etc and you get an economic calamity that will make the 2008 recession look tame.

Delegates to the GOP convention in Cleveland next month, cannot in good conscience allow someone to be their party’s nominee for President who will intentionally put hundreds of thousands(maybe even millions) of average, hard-working, Americans like me out of a job.

Unlike what Trump said Tuesday, you can’t bring my job back from China or Mexico, we have to have trade with those countries, and others, first then guys like me get to have jobs right here in the good old US of A.

The right thing for everyone, and the best thing for my job and tens of thousands of others like it, is for the GOP delegates to revolt against Trump, nominate Ted Cruz instead, and we all move on to beating Hillary in November, and let CONSERVATIVE principles usher in another era of groundbreaking economic growth and expansion just as they did with Ronald Reagan.
