Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's chief of staff Joe Kasper will leave that position for another position in the Pentagon in the coming days, according to a "senior administration official." This comes after the abrupt suspensions of three other Hegseth staffers. Senior adviser Dan Caldwell (Hegseth Advisor Who Was Included in Leaked Signal Text Chain Escorted From Pentagon, Placed on Leave – RedState), deputy chief of staff Darin Selnick (Second Hegseth Aide Escorted From the Pentagon As Leak Probe Widens – RedState) and Colin Carroll, Deputy Defense Secretary Stephen Feinberg’s chief of staff (A Third Senior Pentagon Official Has Now Been Placed on Leave As Investigation Into Leaks Widens – RedState) were all suspended and escorted from the building by security earlier this week, allegedly in connection with a probe of leaks to the media. They were terminated on Friday.

As always, the truth about these situations is unclear and may never be known. According to Fox News, the background seems more like something you'd expect from middle school girls than from adults charged with great responsibility.

According to that story, Kasper had a "deep vendetta” against the three and believed they were trying to get him fired. He may have had a point as "[t]he three had raised concerns to Hegseth about Kasper’s leadership." Both Caldwell and Selnick had a personal connection with Hegseth from their time at Concerned Veterans for America. The relationship between Kasper and the three suspended staffers had deteriorated to the point of "shouting matches in the front office."

None of this is useful to Hegseth, who had to fend off allegations of being a terrible manager while at Concerned Veterans for America, among other things, to be confirmed as SecDef.
