Raskin's Comment About What Democrats Would Do 'When' They Get Back Power Is Raising Eyebrows

If there weren't already plenty of reasons to vote against these people, this sounds like even more of a reason to never vote them back into power when they think and act like this.

Weird: New Mexico Judge Resigns After Homeland Security Finds Tren De Aragua Member at His Residence

This is a weird story; there’s no other way to say it.

Van Hollen Trainwrecks on the Sunday Shows, Reveals Who's Paying for His Trip

Seriously? Who authorized this? Because Van Hollen -- and not the American people -- should be paying for his own performance theater.

Not every Democrat is anti-gun, mind you, but enough of them are that one should probably include that in the introduction of someone if you're going to talk about gun control.

Is the Outrage Farming Working?

They are uncomfortable, unlike the vast majority of Americans, with deportations at all, and have bought the due process argument hook, line, and sinker.

The Late Pope Francis Made the Roman Catholic Church Take a Massive Left Turn

What will the Roman Catholic Church do now? Will it continue to follow in the way of Pope Francis, or will it heed the call of millions to return to a more traditional approach to the faith? The world watches and waits.

Is This Why the Supreme Court Halted the Tren de Aragua Deportation Flights?

Ed Whelan at National Review claims one reason the court issued this temporary pause is because they don't trust the Trump administration.

Sean Parnell Tosses Latest Media/Dem 'Bombshell' About Pete Hegseth In the Fake News Shredder

So yeah, get ready for a couple days of that from the Left, until they move on to the next lib media-fueled "crisis" in the Trump administration.

WHAT'S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill...

We've got one more week before the critters return to the Capitol, but that's not keeping them from making all manner of media appearances (and fools of themselves) — see, e.g.:

Here's what we can look forward to regarding the rescissions package upon their return:

House GOP leaders tentatively plan to vote on President Donald Trump’s package to claw back billions of dollars in federal funding already approved by Congress during the week of May 5, according to multiple people familiar with the issue.

Trump’s White House plans to send a rescissions package to Capitol Hill this week, sources tell us. The package includes $9.3 billion in cuts to the State Department, NPR and PBS and more.

...

The vast majority of these cuts will be on the foreign aid side, making up roughly $8 billion, sources said. Trump has already shuttered USAID, folding it into the State Department.

White House What's Up

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania will participate in the White House Easter Egg Roll at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. President Trump expressed his condolences regarding the passing of Pope Francis, as did Vice President JD Vance, who met with the Pope at the Vatican on Sunday.

Keeping Up With the Cabinet

Usually, I devote this section to brief updates from Cabinet members as to their activities, but today, I thought it might be nice simply to share the Easter messages from them.

Sec. State - Marco Rubio —

Happy Easter! Jeanette and I join Christians around the world in celebrating the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. He is risen!

Sec. Defense - Pete Hegseth —

On this Easter morning, we remember that the grave could not hold the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ. The tomb is empty.

He faced death—and won. The ultimate sacrifice so that we can live for eternity.

Christ is King!

Wishing a blessed Easter to all our American warriors and their families.

Attorney General - Pam Bondi

Sec. Agriculture - Brooke Rollins —

He is risen!

Today, we rejoice in the triumph of love, grace, & redemption. The brightest light has overcome the darkest day, and the hope of the resurrection fills our hearts with joy.

Wishing everyone a blessed Easter as we celebrate the eternal gift of His love.

Sec. Housing & Urban Development - Scott Turner —

“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!” – Luke 24: 5-6

HE HAS RISEN INDEED! This Easter we celebrate because good triumphed over evil, the tomb was empty, and the promise of new life was fulfilled for all.

Happy Easter!

Sec. Education - Linda McMahon —

Wishing Americans a blessed Easter Sunday filled with love and gratitude.

He is risen!

Sec. Homeland Security - Kristi Noem

Happy Easter! Wishing Christians around the country joyful celebrations for the resurrection of our Lord and Savior.

He is risen!

Admin. Small Business Association - Kelly Loeffler —

He is Risen!

This Easter, we rejoice in the victory of Jesus Christ - who conquered death and brought us eternal life.

His Resurrection renews our hearts, strengthens our faith, and reminds us that no darkness is greater than the light of Christ.

National Security Advisor - Mike Waltz —

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 Happy Easter!

He is Risen!

Full Court Press...

I'm not even sure where to begin with this — I take a holiday weekend off and all hell breaks loose in the courts. Bob Hoge and streiff did a fine job of keeping up with some of the more significant developments, but I expect we'll see quite a bit more action today from the courts. Me? I'm busy wading through my notification emails to get caught up on it all.

And, if it's not too busy mucking things up in the procedural/jurisdictional realm, SCOTUS will be hearing oral argument today in two cases:

  1. Kennedy v. Braidwood Management, Inc. — Whether the court of appeals erred in holding that the structure of the Preventive Services Task Force violates the Appointments Clause, U.S. Const. Art. II, § 2, Cl. 2, and in declining to sever the statutory provision that it found to unduly insulate the Task Force from the HHS Secretary’s supervision
  2. Parrish v. U.S. — Whether a litigant who files a notice of appeal after the ordinary appeal period expires must file a second, duplicative notice after the appeal period is reopened.

COMING ATTRACTIONS

As noted, the White House Easter Egg Roll will take place later this morning.

We'll no doubt see more news regarding the Vances' visit in India.

And I expect the Supreme Court to make some interesting moves in the coming days.

MORNING MUSING

As alluded to in the "Full Court Press" section, I took the weekend off from the news biz as we celebrated a family wedding (the handsome beau's daughter) and then Easter. I knew it was too much to expect the news cycle to simply take a breather to accommodate my time away, and I did my best to tamp down on my "FOMO" — and largely succeeded at that. I've had to learn to make peace with the reality that the news cycle never really does take a break anymore. That serves as both blessing and curse, I suppose.

In any event, I hope you, dear readers, were able to enjoy your holiday weekend — with family, in faith, and/or just taking a moment to relax and soak in some Springtime. We're back at it and I've no doubt we'll have another busy week. Thanks for riding along with us on the roller coaster!
