Update - 4:30 p.m. Eastern:
Local rescue services are reporting between 60 and 80 people injured, with several in critical condition and at least two killed.
German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, did not provide any updates but in a message posted to X in German said, "The reports from Magdeburg suggest something bad is about to happen.
"My thoughts are with the victims and their families," he added. "We stand by their side and by the side of the people of Magdeburg. My thanks go to the dedicated rescue workers in these anxious hours."
While the AP is painting the culprit as a car, multiple reports confirm the driver of said car has been arrested.

Original story:
There are disturbing reports coming out of Magdeburg, Germany, on Friday evening after a vehicle plowed into a crowd at a Christmas market, injuring as many as 20 people in what has been preliminarily characterized as a suspected terrorist attack.
According to German news agency Bildt, more than 20 people were injured in a suspected terrorist attack in the idyllic Christmas market in the eastern German city of Magdeburg on Friday.
It was not immediately unclear[sic] if anyone was killed during the suspected terrorist attack.
Video of the horrific incident is circulating on X. I'll link to it but not embed it as it appears to be sped up and is highly disturbing.
There's additional footage of the aftermath.
