TOP O' THE MORNIN'

Kamala's Univision Town Hall Was a Complete Disaster

So once again, she can't even get through a town hall without lying, failing to give answers, and having yet another controversy.

Scott Jennings Cooks Obama for Chastising Men Over Harris, Reveals Big Issue for Democrats

The reason Harris isn't resonating with men is not because she's a woman. It's because her policies have led to negative outcomes for far too many men, and they find the finger-wagging over it to be demeaning.

Is Racism Really Exclusive to White People?

So, finally, I guess my takeaway is that Dyson's Rules for Racists has sort of made his own brand of racism obsolete. It no longer works as intended, forcing him to jump up and down on the rake.

WHAT'S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill...

Some senators (Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Ed Markey (D-MA), Bernie Sanders (I-VT)) are pushing the Commerce Department for more transparency in relation to the contracts it's awarding pursuant to the CHIPS Act.

Things aren't looking so hot for former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R) in his Senate race against Angela Alsobrooks (D).

White House What's Up

Not much on President Joe Biden's schedule for Friday. He'll receive another briefing on the response and recovery efforts for Hurricanes Helene and Milton (which Vice President Kamala Harris will again attend remotely) and then deliver an update to the press.

The Homestretch

Following the hurricane updates, Harris will participate in a virtual campaign event and then deliver remarks at a campaign event in Scottsdale, Arizona, before returning to Washington, D.C. Running mate Tim Walz is going on a man's man blitz over the weekend, with plans to attend a high school football game in Mankato, Minnesota, Friday evening, and then go pheasant hunting. And wonder of wonders, First Lady Jill Biden will be campaigning in Yuma, Arizona, for the Harris-Walz ticket.

Former President Donald Trump has two campaign events Friday: First, he'll deliver remarks in Aurora, Colorado, in the afternoon, and then he'll hold a rally in Reno, Nevada, in the evening.

Full Court Press...

Jose Ibarra, the man accused of killing August University nursing student Laken Riley, was due in court Friday for a motion hearing ahead of his trial, which is set to begin November 13. However, that hearing has now been postponed to November 1 as the parties await DNA evidence testing results.

Family members of some of the passengers killed in two Boeing 737 Max crashes will be in court Friday to ask a federal judge to throw out the plea agreement entered into in July.

Sean "Diddy" Combs appeared in court Thursday afternoon in the Southern District of New York for a status conference. The court set deadlines for discovery and motions in the case, set the pre-trial conference for December 18, 2024, and set the trial for May 5, 2025. The court further ordered Combs to remain in custody pending the trial.

In the D.C. criminal case pending against Trump, Judge Tanya Chutkan has granted Jack Smith's team leave to file a redacted version of its Appendix (to its immunity motion, which has already been unsealed) but has granted Trump's legal team seven days to "evaluate litigation options" — i.e., determine if they wish to take an interlocutory appeal on her rulings. We'll have a bit more on this latest ruling later today.

MORNING MUSING

I got to check something off my bucket list Thursday evening: seeing the Northern Lights. I caught a glimpse of them briefly in May but wasn't able to photograph them. I knew they were likely to be visible Thursday based on the predictions from NOAA and other weather folk I follow. I also knew I needed to find a spot away from light pollution and with a decent sightline of the northern horizon. I enlisted my handsome beau's assistance in going aurora hunting. We went for a drive but struggled for a bit to find the right spot — sufficiently away from the lights and traffic and with an adequate view of the northern horizon. Eventually, though, we did. At first, we didn't see much — maybe a faint haze in the sky that I wasn't quite sure was it. But then, once we trained our cameras on it, we were rewarded with a bonafide light show. Very cool.
