Oh My: Nevada Dem Rep Suffers a Screaming Meltdown About Trump Tax Cuts

I don't think I've written about Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV) before.

But with his comments on Wednesday, he seems to be making a serious bid for silliest Democratic comment of the week, and that's a tough call in a week with Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) and Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) spouting off.

I think he was a bit ticked off that hardly anyone seemed to be there as he was trying to grill U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer about tariffs. But this was definitely a truly bad, unprofessional meltdown from Horsford.

"But meanwhile, the Speaker is rushing to the floor to pass a budget reconciliation to screw America by passing the biggest tax cut in history on the backs of the American people. WTF!" he screamed. "Who’s in charge?”

Imagine thinking a tax cut will "screw America." That's the first problem with his thinking here.

Other problems? The "tax cut" was already passed under Trump in his first term. What was going on here was extending it, so the American people won't now get a huge increase. If the Democrats had won in November, the Democrats would doubtless have tried to saddle the American people with that increase. Horsford appears to be arguing for something that would have hurt a lot of Americans. But he's talking about it being "on the backs of the American people"? To paraphrase him in a more polite manner, what the heck?

As Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) and even liberal media acknowledged, Trump cut taxes for most Americans, not just the "rich" as Democrats claim.

Not only that, the Trump Rapid Response 47 X account also dropped some facts on Horsford, citing a report from the Council of Economic Advisors.

"Screw" America? A new report from @CEA47 shows that extending the Trump Tax Cuts will:

— Raise real wages by as much as $3,300/year

— Increase take-home pay for median-income households by as much as $5,000/year

— Boost short-run real GDP by 3.3-3.8% and long-run real GDP by 2.6-3.2%

— Save 4.1 million jobs from being destroyed— Invest as much as $100 billion in distressed communities

The Rapid Response account argued it would be the "largest tax increase" if it isn't passed.

If the Trump tax cuts aren't extended, Americans will be stuck with the largest tax hike in history:

The average taxpayer will see a 22% tax hike ($4 trillion).

The average family of four will see a $1,700 tax hike.

The Child Tax Credit will be cut in half for 40 million families.

Nearly every taxpayer will see their guaranteed deduction slashed in half.

26 million small businesses will be saddled with a massive tax increase.

4-6+ million jobs will be lost, including a million manufacturing jobs.

So, this is a truly bizarre take from Horsford, and it's out of touch with Americans.

Trump also has promised to cut taxes on tips -- a huge thing in Nevada -- and probably a factor in him winning there.
