Classic Christmas Song "Baby It's Cold Outside" Gets Puritanical Makeover from Unhinged Left

It’s Christmas so of course liberals are on the offensive. The last few years it’s been a growing trend to denounce the classic, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”, this year they’ve gone even further. A new PC version of the song showed up on Soundcloud from some “activists” who felt the song needed a rewrite to include lines that offered consent, as they believe the original condones Date Rape.

If you’re into that kind of thing…

I’m not sure who started this nonsense, but I can’t imagine they don’t have better things to do with their time. According to the Huffington Post, these two singer songwriters were so unnerved by the lyrics they were compelled to update them with more acceptable language.

The original 1944 lyrics by Frank Loesser include problematic lines like, “What’s in this drink?” crooned by a woman and “What’s the sense in hurtin’ my pride?” by the man.

The duo, singer-songwriters Lydia Liza and Josiah Lemanski, told CNN that they felt that the original song was “aggressive and inappropriate,” arguing that the listener never finds out what happens to the woman in the song.

“You never figure out if she gets to go home. You never figure out if there was something in her drink. It just leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth,” said Liza.

The couple’s revised lyrics are adorably consensual, opening with “I really can’t stay” sung by Liza and “Baby, I’m fine with that” sung by Lemanski.

Most notably, when Liza sings, “I ought to say no, no, no,” Lemanksi responds with “You reserve the right to say no.”

This is ridiculous and insulting to actual victims of Rape. Period. There are about a zillion songs about Sex that actually discuss having sex, this isn’t one of them. To suggest otherwise is to be boldly stupid.

As someone whose familiarity with this song comes from the movie, “Elf”, I just don’t get it. Are Americans so dumbed down that they don’t understand innuendo anymore? Perhaps it’s just too subtle for the Slut Walk crowd. There once was a time that people didn’t brag about their sexual conquests in public. Women used to actually play coy with their suitors and it’s captured beautifully in the lyrics of “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”.

This adorable scene between Will Farrell and Zooie Deschanel encapsulates the real tone of the song:

That nuance is lost on so many so-called feminists shows just how far backwards they would have us go. A song written in 1944 didn’t have the social constraints ordered by the puritanical left. So much for progress.
