A series of Republican denouncements of racism, the KKK, and white supremacy have been coming at a nearly constant rate since Donald Trump’s off-the-cuff press conference yesterday muddied the issue.
Included in those are a joint statement from father and son duo, George H.W. and George W. Bush – both former Presidents of the United States.

America must always reject racial bigotry, anti-Semitism, and hatred in all forms. As we pray for Charlottesville, we are reminded of the fundamental truths recorded by that city’s most prominent citizen in the Declaration of Independence: we are all created equal and endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights. We know these truths to be everlasting because we have seen the decency and greatness of our country.
The two former presidents join House Speaker Paul Ryan, several Congressmen, and several Senators in releasing statements decrying white supremacy without calling Donald Trump out by name. However, the spirit and the timing of the statements seems to indicate that they are all in response to yesterday’s poorly-received remarks from the sitting President.
