Remember when Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe tanked his campaign when he argued that parents should not have a say in what is taught to their children in K-12 classrooms? Well, it appears Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke, who is running for Texas governor, made the same blunder.
His chances of winning were slim before. But now, it appears he will have more in common with McAuliffe than the belief that kids should belong to the state, not their parents.
On Wednesday, footage of O’Rourke, an Irishman who pretends to be Hispanic to get votes, surfaced on social media in which he lashed out at those who oppose ideas inspired by critical race theory (CRT) being taught in K-12 schools. He argued that teachers should essentially be allowed to teach what they want to teach.
“We don’t need to tell [a teacher] what version of history she is allowed to teach in a classroom. We don’t need to scare the parents of those kids… about something called CRT (critical race theory) that I’ve never heard of before last year,” O’Rourke said.

In a comment released to Fox News Digital, the Irishman’s campaign said: “As governor, Beto will fully fund our Texas schools and fully support Texas students, parents, and teachers after years of Greg Abbott underfunding our classrooms and calling for defunding public education.”
The campaign added: “Beto does not say ‘parents’ shouldn’t tell schools what to teach.”
Yeah, nice try there, Skippy.
If Beto wasn’t talking about parents, who was he talking about? Who were the ones showing up to school board meetings to protest against progressive ideas on race being presented in classrooms? What groups are pushing back against these teachings? Do the names Moms For Liberty and Moms For America sound like anything but parents?
The Irishman was clearly referring to parents and others concerned about what small children are learning when they go to school – he’s just not as honest about it as McAuliffe was. But again, this is how these progressive statist types think. They believe government-run schools should have full sway over the ideas they use to influence children. No wonder they are so bothered by the notion that parents might want to have a say in what their kids are taught.
